Since the Ropeman1 is hard to come by, has anybody used or know anything about the Rollinlock by CT or Duck emergency ascender.

I use the Duck. It’s great. I mainly use it so I can use 9mm rope and be in spec.

If you get a Duck, know that most D carabiners aren’t going to fit. It seems to be meant to be used with an oval.

Whats wrong with the ropeman 2? Just curious I know it has more teeth but it can go down to smaller rope diameters which makes it appealing in my mind.

Idk. I haven't owned one but I haven't noticed any excessive wear on my ropes from my petzl ascension which has very similar teeth on the cam.

My buddy has the Ropeman 2 and has seen wear (frizzing) after just a few uses. I think a lot of it depends on rope that you buy but I do think that the ropeman 1 is just the better option.

I have a couple friends that bought the Ropeman 2 and they had the same problem. I've had the Ropeman 1 ordered now for over three weeks on amazon.

I ordered a second one from Backcountry this weekend will be here Friday. They have a 15% off currently for first timers.

Ropeman 2 has sharp teeth and is heavier than the Duck or Rollnlock. For the weight/price the Rollnlock is a good buy. It also converts to a pulley. Could be useful with a couple prussiks to raise a deer on a gambrel using a 2:1 mechanical advantage. For the lightest device that supports 9mm go with the Duck.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with a ropeman 2. I use a 2 and yes the teeth will catch on the rope on occasion but it's not that big of a deal. If you look at my rope it is frayed more from being in contact with tree bark than anything. It also can be used with rope as small as 8mm.

Definitely, nothing wrong with a Ropeman 2. It will work as advertised. The RollNLock and the Duck also work on ropes 8mm without the sharp teeth and are lighter weight. The RollNLock is also a pulley. When buying a device to work with 8mm rope, I feel like you get a better deal for the money with a RollNLock. General pricing ...

Ropeman 2 $45
RollNLock $55
Duck $60

I have both. The teeth on the Ropeman 2 are very aggressive, spiky teeth which will wear a rope faster. It also doesn't release as easy as the Ropeman 1 which makes it somewhat less advantageous as a length adjuster. I use my Ropeman2 as an ascender when I'm climbing SRT because it grips the rope quicker. I use Ropeman 1's as length adjusters on my bridge and lineman's belt. They both are good for different applications.

I use a duck on my 8mm tether. Ropeman1 on anything bigger. I like my 8mm the best.
