Blaze Orange Vest Recommendations for Whitetails?

Oct Nov Dec Jan....technically I don't think u are required to wear orange during small game season but I sure do

Our rifle on public land is thanksgiving week/weekend and Christmas. And for 7 days in october is primitive. Im able to hunt Sep15-Oct20 and then 2nd week in november and if i have 3 down by then i wont hunt again til january if at all.

Weirdly timely post.

In alabama you don't have to keep your orange on once you're 12ft or higher in a tree. I've always worn an orange hat walking in and swapped it for my regular one in the tree. But now I'm hunting on the ground most of the time, so I swapped to a vest to keep my punkin'head from bobbing around.

Once you're wearing one constantly, you start wanting a nicer one.

Exactly. I used to gun hunt rarely because I prefer bow hunting, but since I got a fancy new .30-06 last year, I started wearing a lot more orange and correspondingly realized how much I dislike those cheap mesh vests...

Kryptek has a nice looking vest the Vesuvius.

i don’t like the nicer vests that are closed on the sides as the inhibit access to jacket and bib pockets.

Appreciate everyone's thoughts and suggestions!

I ended up stumbling onto this GameHide Mountain Pass Extreme Big Game vest (link here) and pulled the trigger. I like that it comes in camo orange, has a chest pocket for my phone, and best of all, it has a side zipper that allows for a full kangaroo pocket. Plus, it's only $80, compared to $120 for the Kuiu vest (on sale). Should be here in a couple days since I ordered from Amazon. I'll report back when I have it in hand.

Not sure what brand I have, but it's a relatively cheap upland game vest. This year I wore it over my turkey vest, and draped it out over my Drey in the tree. Also wore an orange fleece jacket in lieu of a vest.

I would suggest that pocket layout be the deciding factor, rather than brand or material.

I have a cheap Walmart vest I throw on over top when orange is needed. Hadn't out a lot of thought into actual orange clothing, but some of these options look nice...
Same. i hate that vest though. WE have it kinda good in MD. A hat is all you need to be legal. Not saying its not a good idea to wear more but its nice for when your bow hunting on bow only public in MD and youre in a tree. IF your walking in or out having a vest is probably worth it. Firearms season i wear both even on private and if im in a ground blind i hang orange outside it. some people are idiots.

To the o.p. Careful buying patagonia puffy vests etc. that someone else recommended. it may look orange but some DNR officers are very picky about it meeting the "BLAZE" orange part. Its a very specific color. i would stick with hunting brands just to play it safe.

Welp, while that vest was nice, it wasn't the one for me. It just has too many pockets and things going on, and although I really liked the full kangaroo handwarmer pocket, it wasn't worth the hassle of the side zipper for putting it on and taking it off. I just snagged a King's Camo Softshell vest off Midway USA for about $30 on sale, so I plan to give that a run the last couple weeks of the season.

got this last year, can’t say enough good things. I had both the fleece Kuiu and first lite catalyst. Hated both, overpriced and paper thin.
How heavy was it? I looked at that this morning, but a few of the reviews mentioned it being so heavy that it's only good for pretty stationary hunts but not long jaunts around public...

It is a high pile fleece on the inside and not the most breathable. I walked around and the weather was in the 30s. I had to leave it unzipped and my back got pretty warm. I would imagine it’s better for colder weather.

I will say that I tend to run extremely warm.

Well, First Lite just released their Charge Vest today, and I have to admit it looks pretty dang sweet. $85 is more than I want to pay for it, but it's surprisingly less than what I would expect First Lite to charge for it. If I spot that thing on sale between now and November, odds are high I pull the trigger...
