Boots you liked/disliked 2023

Not this year but did try Crispi Summits. I tried a bunch of insoles but they were brutal. It was extreme pain every time I stepped down.
Keeping on the strange side, I do really like Kennetreks. They take a ton of time to break in but they are amazing in rough, steep country.
I also like the Lacrosse Alpha Burly 800’s. Very comfortable and warm.
I will be trying Schnee’s Beartooths soon. I couldn’t pass up the sale.

Dry conditions I run Salomon gtxs
Wet with hills I run Hanwag Ancash 2 gtx
Cold big bulky Irish Setter 1000 gram
Farm fields and wet Mucks

Just the new norm lately.

The cheapo hippers, is what it is I guess. They actually were ok for a season. The summer storing them in my garage, the outer rubbery coating dry rotting in a few places it was folded. My bad there, I guess. Have to rethink how I store them. Probably going to get a set of the Dans or Yoders or whatever next, I guess. Trying to not spend extra money right now though.

The Salomon Quests, I am disappointed in. My last several pair of boots have all broken down at the sole or rand coming apart. Seems the quality of the rubber is crap, and the glues they use now are all hot garbage. Quests and Lowa Renegades. Those two both fit my feet terrifically, but with the quality I may be hopping on the Crispi bandwagon next.

Did both these ghetto repairs last night. We'll see how they hold up, but not expecting much.

Quest 4Ds were my go-to boots for a long time, both for hunting/outdoor use and at work. ~2018 the quality tanked and I was burning through multiple pairs/year. Eventually quit wearing them.

That said, I have a couple pairs of the Quest Forces for work and they seem to be built like earlier generations and are holding up better. May be worth giving them a shot if your feet like the Quests.

Didn't Like:
Crispi Thor II GTX. I really wanted to like them. Build quality is great and I like how they look. Waterproofing held up well for the 25ish miles I put on them. But with the stock insole as well as with Sole insoles I just got awful heel rub if there was any kind of incline to deal with and I ended up deciding to get rid of them.

Liked:
Salomon X Ultra Mid 4 GTX. I wish it were a little taller. I know I could have gotten the quest but got a screamin deal on the X Ultra Mid and had previously had success with an older version of them. But otherwise, I'm very happy. They're so light, and relatively warm. I use boot blankets when it's really cold, so light and not bulky is what I want in a boot.

Men's UA HOVR™ Infil Tactical Boots

UA boots usually are terrible. But the above seems to actually be waterproof and works extremely well for saddle hunting. Just my $0.2

Used them from 25* to 90*F. So far, loving them

I bought some Irish Setter Elk Tracker #861 and have really enjoyed them so far this season. I went with the uninsulated option bc it’s not absolutely necessary for Georgia winters. Sure, they’ve gotten a little cold time to time but I can wear them more of the season that way as well. Traction has been a 10/10 and same for comfort thus far. Seemingly minimal break in period and stable/supportive enough for all day hunts from my saddle platform. I cannot speak for long term usage but I’m more than pleased with my decision so far.

Lace-Up recommendation boot would be the Nevada. Bought 3 years ago and are exceptional. I wish I had bought sooner.

For a pull on boot i really like the LITE boots.

I just got a pair of Hoffman Mountaineer pac boots for christmas and have 4 sits with them from 30°F and calm to 15°F and 20mph wind. They're heavy, so you definitely notice the extra weight on long hikes, and for stuff over a mile I'll probably stick with my lightweight hikers and boot blankets, but holy cow are they warm. Even at 15°F and 20mph wind I was able to sit for 4+ hrs with no footwarmers and didn't even start to feel a chill. It's nice once I'm in the stand vs the boot blankets because with boot blankets it's very noisy/clumsy trying to turn my body and half the time I end up accidentally stepping on one boot blanket with the other foot and getting stuck. The leather was pretty supple from the jump despite being heavy duty, and I had no issues with rubbing or discomfort even the first time I wore them. Leather uppers and final assembly happens in Kellog, ID, which is nice. I haven't had them ice fishing yet but I think they'll be fantastic there as well. I got the 10" model, but they also offer 12" and 14" height.

I ran the crispi thors for a long time and thought they were really pretty good…until I replaced them with a pair of Hanwag Yukon leather lined (non gtx) and man these are awesome

I do run them with a pair of sheep feet insoles as well but liked them with factory insole as well
