I have been want to go SRT for a while now and just been dragging my ass. Well getting my sticks out today I picked them up and basically said F@*$k these. I love them and they have served me well but time to move on.

Went to REI this morning and picked up a Grigri 2, ascender, pulley and a some caribeineers. Ordered rope as well and will be here on Wednesday. Very excited. Have done repelling in the past so I am comfortable with it.

Can't wait. Krestal will be here tomorrow as well. Very excited.

I like one stick. its minimalist and actually fast when you get it down.

srt looks like fun though

You must prepare the tree prior to your hunt? I can only imagine me trying to pitch a throw bag at oh-dark-thirty in the morning. :(

That is true.

I have some heavy weight braided fishing line I will leave in the tree for a few spots I go to early so I can pull the rope up when I get there. Reason I'm using the fishing line is you can't see it unless you know it is there.

I hunt public land almost exclusively and try not to give my spots away and am sure not going to leave a rope in a tree for someone else.

Thanks for that idea. I mostly hunt public land, too, so that's a prime consideration.

Slingshot, sinker, and 60lb fishing line on a dowel rod.

One good thing to do is when getting used to your grigri, about every 10 feet on your way up the tree tie in a alpine butterfly to catch you in the event of a panic grab.

I think I'll be packing both 1stick/aider and rope for morning hunts. I'll probably end up using stick a fair amount so I don't have to toss weight in the dark if its a really thick setup. I'll still rappel down. Evening hunts I'm going to force myself in SRT for most if not all hunts.

I've been practicing at least twice a week throwing weights in the dark, and climbing rope and setting up tether/platform at least once a week.

I see a similar learning curve for the SRT as 1stick, and I see each being the better choice for different setups. Weight wise, i'm actually about 1/2lb heavier with rope/SRT versus 1stick. Both are ridiculously light though.

using fishing weights and braided line are great when your branch is clear of a lot of leaves and other branches. But in the dark, or with heavy early season foliage, a 10 or 12 ounce weight and heavier throw line give you extra oomph to pull through small branches and leaves, and are easier to follow visually.

Are you going to use a throw bag?
We just stopped selling the throw bag as many companies can make them cheaper. It has also been hard in this area to find lead shot. Maybe you guys will make it have a comeback. Glad to see some exploring climbing techniques.
An interesting note on the throw bag is that New Tribe first invented it. Before my time though.

Yep! I have used a 12oz shot pouch on a tree wet, with moss and tried everything to get it to drop. Finally just had to pull it and start over with a 14oz. Sucks when you finally got the spot you wanted 100 ft up. Probably not so bad for 20-30 ft. although I am better at higher distances than lower ones for some odd reason.
For tree climbing we use a BIG sling shot. I gave Boswell one of these and he said he was going to put a sight on it.

How do you use that slingshot. Similar to mortar launcher?

Has someone already done a detailed review on the SRT system?? If not that would be super helpful as I'm intrigued
