I just ordered a cam cleat that accepts rope diameter from 2mm to 6mm. Anyone ever use Amsteel 1/4" on a cam cleat? What was your experience? Curious as it is hollow cored and how much it flattens out. Will it slip? Just asking if anybody has tried. I will test anyway but just curious on experiences.
 
I did it all last year. No issues at all.

200lb max working load and 400lb breaking load. Oh and it’s less than an inch wide so it won’t stick out over the edge of a 1” tube! Only one I could find. I’ll report back after some testing. I need to get with you about some rope I have ordered that you may want to check into carrying.
 
Squirrels please post a link for those cams. Mine are over an inch wide.
I mount them on the side of my sticks.

Any concerns about the working load?. I'm 205 in my birthday suit. As much as I am into saving weight.... that may not be the best way for me to go about it. :)
 
Just speculating. Would the cam cleats be hold all the persons weight? Wouldn’t the standoffs putting pressure against the tree take up some of the working load?
 
I wrap a couple quick overhand knots too.
The cam is nice to grab the line tighter right away.

I'm 180 right out the shower. I have little concern with the ratings. That is just my own judgement of the situation. Everyone here should make their own decisions based on research and confidence in their gear. Each individual is responsible for themselves, we need to evaluate and test gear ourselves. I will be the only one to blame if something goes wrong in MY system, not someone else. I'm just a dude on the internet.

I am by no means and enginer (hell I can't even spell it). However based on my dumb hillbilly mechanically inclined brain I would suspect this MIGHT be true. But what do I know.

Agreed, I test everything. But I wasn't sure if perhaps I was missing something that would greatly reduce your load them. Like the stand offs mentioned above.
 
I've tried 1/4 Amsteel with my Barton cam cleat (K Cam Cleat Midi - 507 lb. safe work load - exactly 1" wide). It does compress the rope significantly, but zero issues with slipping. It is more difficult to pull out of the cleat than Samson 8mm accessory cord after you put your weight on the stick.
 
Same price for a ronstan cam cleat (Large) if you shop around. 750lb and 1000lb. Mine is solid and provides sound piece of mind for us bigger fellers.

I am going to try this for one sticking - I bought the cam cleat that is a little bit bigger than the micro.
I plan on using 1/4 Amsteel spliced all the way back through itself to add a little bit of bulk to the rope.
Did you have any issues?

It has a good rating. If you mount this on a new helium just below the versa button you get a good linear connection but then cant use the "suction cups" on the heliums. I mounted the cleat this way and will find another way to nest and carry the sticks. I am running 1/4 amsteel and it holds great in the cleat.
