Cam Cleats

I just love Muddy's cam cleat system but I don't like how much the sticks weigh. I am looking at installing a cam cleat system on a different set of climbing sticks. I searched Cam Cleats on Amazon and the only ones that pop up are GANGUOLA Cam Cleat Ball Bearings that are intended for ropes on boats. I'm assuming they will work if I installed them on sticks. Has anybody tried this before?

Awesome. I didn't even run across those while searching, so that's nice to know. Thanks for the link.

This is the cam cleat I used on my custom stick.

That’s good to know. What stick did you install this on? A purely custom stick? I was considering installing it on a set of Helium Sticks. Haven’t ordered the sticks yet, so didn’t know if they’d cooperate with that particular stick or not.

I have looked this up before to do the same thing you are wanting to do, and I went to quick release cam cleat and come up with a few different cleats. They use these on sailboats or boats in general. My search engine was Bing but I guess any search engine will pull up the same thing.

Several have done the cam cleat on Helium sticks. Not my picture, here is an example

I think it might be @boyne bowhunter ?

Anyway, here is a video of his climbing with a Helium with cam cleat.

Awesome. And is that 1/4' Amsteel you used for a rope mod? Didn't know how that would agree with the cam cleats. Guess it did just fine for ya?

Thanks for the link, Runner.

I guess it helps with stacking the sticks, if the cleat is on the side

Yes I offset ever other cam cleat for stacking purposes. I dont use these DIY sticks anymore but love the weight and set up time. The 1/4" amsteel worked great. I did dip the amsteel in plasti-dip to help with any abrasion
