Camo jacket DIY

So I had a outdoor research backpacking jacket that was bright yellow, synthetic fill, super lightweight, packs down to the size of a fat sandwich...( I'm hungry), any ways it's awesome. But it's super old and has been relegated down to a pre/post-fireline or Rx burn jacket cause it's full of camp fire holes and dirty as it gets.

I have also used it hunting and it blended right in with the vivid fall colors of Alaska but not so much in NC. So here in NC I wore it under a camo piece of clothing. So I decided that I would try dying it.

So far so good I used brown dye and yellow polyester has made olive drab. It used to be as bright as the bucket on the grill.

I think I'll need one more dye packet as one side is still a little yellow. The side that got dipped first took one most the dye, so I'll dip the lighter side first next time.

Total cost: $7 (will be $13 + beers)
1x Brown synthetic dye: $6
Thrift store cooking pot: $1

Beers: $12
One more dye pack: $6

Might not use a second packet. Rinsed it and hung to dry, it sorta a coyote color with splotches of olive and hints of dark/rotting yellow. Should be perfect for cold fall/winter hunts.

This cost structure seems exagorated. My guess is if you went out for another dye pack you bought another $12.00 in beer. Tell the truth........ did you we all want to know how many beers it takes to dye that jacket. :)

Haha I didn't need another dye packet so only $7. The dying process only took 3 beers, the watching it air dry from my porch seems to be taking the remainder of the pack!
