Carabiner instead of loop

Is anybody using a carabiner as part of the "loop" on their tether? I am thinking of the Squirrel aider, using the tether as part of the climbing system. However, I am trying to figure out an easy way to detach the tether to get around branches. Would using a carabiner as the loop put a unsafe load on the carabiner? Thanks Pete

I use a biner as my loop on my tether, it makes it to where as I can pull my rope down, I repel down

Just wonder if you might end up side loading the biner - I think this would be the risk. The sides are significantly weaker. I have wondered the same thing but have hesitated because of this.
A petzl ring can be loaded from any side but it is not designed to be opened easily and would not be any different than a figure 8 loop on a tether. Maybe some one else has a different answer.

There is no side load on the biner it’s hooked as if it were on your lineman’s belt. I’ve used this for years even with my safety harness never had an issue just check your kn rating on your biner

I use a Petzl delta screw link...the same one I use for SRT. It only goes on if I need it. Otherwise it stays in the pack

Thanks. I suppose I could tie in a loop with a long tag end and tie the biner to the tag. Use it for climbing and use the loop for hanging.
