Chiggers

I love that word and use it whenever I can... except around the kids...hahaha
I thought the word may be related to these.

These include SNAFU, SUSFU, FUBAR, and similar terms used by various branches of the United States military during World War II.
  • BOHICA.
  • FUBAR.
  • FUBU.
  • SNAFU.
  • An Imperial FU.
  • SUSFU.
  • TARFU.

Like most are saying, Permethrin. It last for a couple weeks even washed. Make sure to spray
around your belt line to.

Wally world & a few pharmacies sell chiggerex. Amazon as well. White bottle with red top.
That's about the only thing non prescription to get you through the night. Stuff actually works
pretty good. I keep taking the hottest possible showers & scrubbing all the bites as brisk as I can.

I've been eat up sitting in some pine tree's too. Not just on the ground. A hundred or so bites
& you're definitely in for a rough week.

So chiggerex main ingrediant is benzocaine. Wonder what else has high levels of it cause that
stuff works. I see that solarcaine for sunburns has it too. Wonder if it will work in a pinch.

BEST METHOD
Permethrin on clothes, tape pant bottom to boots and when you get back to the truck use a adhesive lint roller and roll your clothes to gather any survivors!

I HATE CHIGGERS !!!!!!!!
They are my nemisis
Permethrin treated clothes are a must.
They don’t dig in your skin. They bite you and puke in the bite. Their puke starts destroying cells. (THE DRIVE YOU OUT OF YOUR MIND ITCHING BEGINS) the best thing I have found after a bit is absorbine jr or go get a steroid shot. I wish you could eliminate the world with CHIGGERS…. I hate those bastards

I battle them 8 months out of the year... Hair Dryer is your best friend. When you start to itch, turn your hair dryer on high and blast them til you can’t take it anymore. As the bites heat up, it will feel like the best scratch ever, and it will dry out the bites and lessen the time of their itching by about 75%. I used to suffer for 3-5 days. Now, I blast em with the the dryer once, maybe a 2nd time 12 hours later if I feel em again. Then they’re gone. Heat dries the bite. You’re welcome

I sometimes use a Bic lighter. I just ignite the lighter and turn it sideways heating the silver casing. When it gets pretty hot, I push it against the chigger bite. The heat stuns the nerves and desensitizes the bite. Just don't overdo it when heating the casing and burn yourself.

Another fan of permethrin. I also spray down my socks and am in the process of moving all of my field socks to over the calf length.

I spray everything! Shirts, pants, underwear, socks. The only stuff that doesn’t get sprayed is my late season gear.

Not sure if it would help on chiggers, but I have used Dawn dish soap to wash for a few days after exposure to poison ivy. Dries the skin and eases itching quite a bit.
I've not had a tick this year after using Sawyers on my hunting clothes and I hunted all summer in that heat in tall beans. For poison ivy, I spray a shot of hair spray on it and it seems to seal it off and it dries up pretty quick.

Thanks, going to REI to get some.

Save some cash.....go to the feed store and get the higher concentrated stuff and dilute it down. A 15 dollar bottle of concentrate last me over 3 hunting seasons
It says spray Permethrin on clothes. Let dry, do not get on skin.
The Doc gave me Permethrin 5% cream for chiggers. Says to apply directly on skin???
How dangerous is Permethrin?

Think someone joked about pantyhose at one point. Legit question though... could wearing pantyhose be a blocker for chiggers and the like? The thought being they wouldn't be able to get underneath the mesh layer.

A few articles and medical journals I read showed it had a significant risk of hindering, disrupting or damaging male reproductive system. So aside from the thermacell and maybe a tent I’m staying away from the stuff on clothes for a couple years while we have kids. Being overly cautious.

I talked to a lady biologist and she told me about pantyhose. Buy the cheep ones at Walmart.
She said most guys don't like the idea but anything to keep this from happening again.
