Chronographed, Real-World Bow Speed

2014 Elite E32, 70# 30" draw: Advertised IBO Speed 333ft/sec with a 350gr arrow. My setup is 30.5" Black Eagle Carnivores (250 spine) with 200gr broadhead for a 540gr TAW. Actual arrow speeds at 270ft/sec.

EDIT: Speed measured using the time between the recorded sound waves from release to impact over a 20yd shot, not actually chronographed.

Bow: Obsession turmoil, 350 IBO, 273 through my chrono.

27.5 draw (I have t rex arms for my height); 70 pound draw

I don't remember my total arrow weight off the top of my head, I built my current set of arrows 3 years ago. I can measure one tonight. 300 spine gold tip kinetic pierce, 150 grain wasp sharpshooter broadhead or 125 grain ramcat diamondback. I switch it up occasionally, the wasps can be a little finicky to tune and I have to be on my A-game shooting form wise, but the penetration is fantastic. The ramcats are great too but I have not killed any elk with them, only whitetail. I have killed an elk with the wasps and had a full pass through.
 
My bow as configured shoots 265 fps (60 lbs, 30", 420 grain arrow, good bit of weight on string (big peep, kisser, soft nocks, d loop, 2 small cat whiskers))

That back calculates to 315 fps IBO

The IBO spec is 330 fps on performance cam mode

But I'm shooting comfort mode which subtracts around 10 fps

So, the claim would be 320 fps

and I calculate my bow shooting 315 fps IBO

so only 5 fps of an overestimate

Wouldn’t these numbers be vastly different to what manufacturers say regardless unless you’re shooting what is required for IBO which I think is a 350 gr arrow at 30” draw or maybe 29” anyways, idk anyone that hunts with 350gr arrows. With that said my 2015 prime ion was advertised at 315 or 320 fps IBO but with my 498gr arrows real world it’s shooting about 282FPS over 6 arrows or so, but that’s with 30” draw and finessed 80# out of the draw.

I don't know. and truthfully I don't care. IMO People get too caught up in FPS. I shoot a heavy set up. If I had to guess 240 -250 fps. The only reason I would ever chrono my set up would be to figure out my momentum #. I own a chrono and I still don't even take the time to do it. All I know is that the arrow is in the dirt on the other side and they usually fall within sight. That's mainly the only thing I care about.

This bow shoots approximately the same speed at over five pounds less peak draw weight compared to the XF 30. However, it is likely slightly less forgiving due to the shorter BH. That has not been my personal experience with this bow as it has a longer riser and 4” more ATA.

When I first bought my Bear Legit RTH I shoot several different arrow weights by changing the point weights. Advertised 315 FPS. One shoot arrow FPS speed test.

I just shot a 5gpp arrow through mine for an IBO equivalent. So the arrow was 5 gpp for 65# draw. With the limbs bottomed the draw weight was a little over 65 and my speed was just slightly over advertised. All that really did was told me the bow was shooting as fast as they said it would. That really means very little once you start talking hunting setup.
 
IBO is usually 5gr of total arrow weight per pound of draw weight @ 30" with basically nothing on the string. I haven't legitimately chronied one of my bows in two years, but I figure I'm somewhere about 260fps based off all my particulars. I'm waiting on a Lift 29.5 and currently shooting a V3 27.
 
Ha! No rockets but nothing extreme. A decent weight and fletching is about 2* helical. I don’t go too heavy and try to stay away from too much helical.
 
My Elite Enkore with performance mods - 340 ibo

Gold tip hunter XT 29" ctc with 445 total arrow weight

71lbs draw at 30.25" draw length measured from riser to nock, speed nocks added to string by Threadz

293.6 fps average from 3 shots with a peak of 294.2
