Climbing foot rope?

Does anyone know if there is anyone who make a amsteel foot rope like this guy uses in the video?
I like the way he use the grigri & ropeman in combo. Looks like a really light set up & uses things I
already have. If not maybe someone should. I'd buy a couple. Guessing you all might also.

It looks to me like it's just a simple whoopie sling with some different sizes of shrink wrap stacked for the foot loop.

I started trying to climb SRT when I first got into saddle hunting, but I learned real quick I am probably the world's worst at using a throw bag. So I started one-stick climbing.

I keep my hand ascender with a whoopie sling permanently attached in the bottom of my pack. If I happen to drop something when I'm at hunting height, I can just rappel down to retrieve it, then SRT back up to the platform in just a couple minutes. No need to take my platform and stick off the tree. It's pretty crude looking, but it works.

I don’t know where you could buy one at. I made mine. All it really is in reality is a Whoopie sling. I used 1/4” instead of 1/8 because that’s what I had. I cut 9 feet of rope, made a 10” buried end that’s locked in with a Brummell splice. Came down 18 inches and buried the remainder back through itself to create the foot loop. It’s easy to do. But, do at your own risk.

I use this strap from a tie down I found in the street. It is not life support. I simply tie it to my ascender with 2 half hitches. I have some Amsteel but don't feel the need to change. Amsteel is very cool for the WOW factor. Otherwise, Meh.

Dang. Wish some one just made them like that. Already did years of research just to switch to saddle hunting. Then did reaserch to one stick & repell. Waiting on all my stuff to come in from ewo. Guess now I gotta learn rope making. Getting a strange feeling sewing & machines are going to be my next research project. I think I've learned more useful knowledge on this sight then all my years in college.

So can anyone coach me on what all I need to order to make one? What size amstel/materials. Anyone know Dano good enough to ask him to add it to all he's awesomeness. I swear I've already orded half his website.

On a side note. I do like the way that guy uses his ropeman & grigri. I just got a hand ascender from ewo & thinking I may like using my CT rolling lock instead.

Amsteel is not a climbing rope. People like me use it for that due to its intensely strong nature. It’s tough. And unbelievably strong. But, it wears from abrasion. Much more so then a climbing rope.

Use at your risk. I’ve never had a problem while using it for hammock and such. So, I’m not afraid to use it. But, it’s a personal choice.

Thats why no one makes them out of amsteel to sell. You could make one out of climbing rope just use a Prussic for your foot band tether. No splicing to be done there.

The petzl looks good. I like/prefer the full amsteel for packability.

So if companies like petzl use dynema/amsteel, I'm not really sure why I should shy
away from them? Amsteel is also used in a lot of good aiders, which would see way
more wear & tear. I mainly intend to use it if I had to come down in a hurry & wanted
to srt back up vs one stick all the way back up. Or if I plan to hunt the same tree a
couple sits in a row, which I rarely do.

Maybe the custom amsteel guy could make 'em. He's already got a few items that are
pretty close already. If not I guess I have a little work to do. Wasn't really wanting to buy
fids & stuff to bury. I have a factor 55 fast fid for my winch ropes. Might have to put that
to use.

How has that held up? Is it worth doing or a waste of time?

This is going on my "To do list" this off-season. Pretty slick and compact.

Sweet, Mike Isbell responded the he could make them no problem. Should be good to add to backwoods mobile gear. Everthing I've gotten from him in the past has been top notch.

I mainly want one like in video for emergencies or a every once in a while srt from a hot spot. Should pack up small enough to throw into the bottom of a dump pouch & forget about it. The latitude dump pouches I have have the zipper compartment in the front & I'm thinking it will fit in there.

Thanks Mike!

@bj139 what hand ascender are you using with that diy foot strap?

Here's how the adjustable foot loop from Mike/Backwoods is looking.

I can fit a kong futura & autuoblock in the zipper portion of the latitude dump pouch
with plenty of room to spare. Pretty sure Mike's foot loop will fold up & pack in there
perfect with it's own little compartment separated from everything else.

So, now I have the whole EWO rappel kit plus the kong, Mike's loop, & a extra autoblock
all in one latitude dump. With that dump pouch I can just shove handfuls of rope in &
it works great. It's been feeding out great even on rappel without having to drop all the
rope to the ground.

Really liking this set up so far. Can't wait to try the srt for the first time.
