Cold Weather Saddle Hunting

Does anyone recommend using coveralls? Itd be sweet to find something like an IWOM but with individual legs instead of a sleeping bag bottom - if the legs were full zip up to the thigh you could pull it over the same way. It would be even sweeter if they had suspenders underneath

I was delerious from lack of sleep coming home from colorado elk hunt and impulse bought an IWOM, to realize i couldnt use it with my jx3 or my hammock tree seat.

I was looking at the arctic shield ones and was wondering if anybody used coveralls, or if bibs and parka were the way to go.

I have insulated coveralls I got at cabelas at least 10 years ago. They work well stationary but I get too hot moving around and you cannot really strip down.

Thatd be fine, really would just use them once i got to climbing height or got sat down where i was goin - i have an old pair of blizzardalls but they arent water proof nor full length leg zip. I really like the built in head cover, hood and hand muff on the iwom

I use light layers, body warmers, and heated vest. All are very light and affordable. However, I'm in SW VA and we hardly get below 40° until mid or late December.

For temps down to +20, I’ll wear my firstlite overalls with insulated base layer, insulated base later top, thick USGI wool shirt and insulated vest.

I don’t wear gloves so I’ll have a muff. The key though is your neck. Keep that insulated and you’ll stay warm.

I sat most of the day last year on the last day of Metro gun season in WI. Temps weren't too crazy, but I think I have a good system.

Layering started with a Pnuma Iconx Heated Vest, merino crew, waffle fleece, fleece vest, and blaze zip up sweatshirt. I later added my Cabela's winter jacket under the blaze sweatshirt. Blaze knit hat and eventually blaze balaclava on my head. Light weight running gloves and Cabela's mittens on my hands. Rechargeable hand warmers used as needed.

Bottom half was merino Long Johns, waffle fleece Long Johns, Columbia hunting pants with their reflective interior. Heated socks layered with merino socks, -40 muck boots, and arctic shield boot covers.

I added the Tethrd saddle insulation to my setup and it made a good difference. Definitely recommended.

I have a SJK Thermal Cloak. Don’t think they make them now but I’m sure you could find a used one.

I had a seamstress cut the bag down the middle
And make 2 legs. Seems to work well enough.

The legs come down to my boots.

A base layer, thin heated vest, fleece mid layer, then cloak.

Toasty at -15c.

Full face hat needed too.

Can pull arms inside the cloak. Muff not needed.

If your fleece layer has pockets it’s nice.
