I am wondering if any of you have some of the Lone Wolf mini sticks, and could give dimensions for them. I have a set of old Gorilla sticks I am thinking of cutting down, and adding the versa button. Just curious what the dimensions between steps, overall length, and where the button was located on them. Since LW quit selling them, I'm gonna have to DIY a set if I want to play that game.

Second, where are you all getting your 8mm accessory cord to use for the rope mod on sticks? Most I see has bright colors running thru it or is all brightly colored. Looking for something black, or at least more subdued.

For the rope I found black on eBay. Only place I could find it in reasonable volumes.

I bought 8mm acc cord from onrope1.com. Ended up getting a color I did not care for, and called them and asked if it was safe to dye. The way they responded (ABSOLUTELY NOT!) made me think they were full of it, so I called PMI who said they weren't aware of any issues with application of some Rit dye.
 
I have located some that is 3700 lb in a decent color. The black with teal colored tracer that I have now is about 4200 lb I think. Wonder if the lower rating is much to worry about. I'm fat, but not quite that fat lol

They have green and black on eBay in 8mm. 30m is a lot but I used it on two sets of sticks. For some reason most places won't tell you what your getting for color. Probably because they go with what's in stock and I'm guessing climbers aren't picky like us hunters.

I saw some like that on Ebay. I must admit that I was leery when I saw it would ship from China.
You have used the rope from China without issues? If so, I may take the leap and order.

Mini sticks are 17". Versa buttons are 6.5" from top.

Don't buy rope from china from an unknown manufacturer...no idea how it was stored, tested, etc. I buy mine from these guys: blackjackmountainoutfitters.com/
Because they have it buy the fpot and good color selections in both dynamic and stuck line. I got 50' of bluewater 8mm In black for $26.50. It was enough to do the rope mod for 4 sticks with a figure 8 on the end, and a proper length tree tether.

Gearx.com also often has great deals generally on closeout colors, etc from mammut, edelweiss, sterling, etc, and if you need biner they have a great selection too. Call them, they always have someone on staff who knows their sh## and may have some off lengths of stuff not on their site. They're a major climbing store and outdoor retailer.

Anytime! Something I keep in mind with China products....I've had several backpacks made in China-same models. Some have been great, some the buckles broke, zippers split, or seams gave in one usage. Just saying you never know what you're going to get, and for something that I will be trusting my life to, I want to know exactly what I'm going to get.

Do you find the 7mm to cam ok behind a versa button? STill tight enough after a much of use? I thought about going that route, but settled on 8mm because of how well it held. Would love to hear your feedback, have another 5 sticks I wasn't going to do, just swap over the ropes I have when needed, but if the 7mm works maybe I"ll give that a try and compare. Thanks!

Yes, really just the weight pinches down on the rope, it works just fine for me with the stock LW button. One thing with the rope mod is to try to tighten it up against the tree as much as possible, that's where some guys claim the rope stretches but really it's just taking up slack in the line in my view. Some guys are running even thinner amsteel but I haven't seen any need to go down that road yet. I always back it up with two half hitches to be safe.
 
Well looky here. A little time, a little cutting and drilling with an old Gorilla brand stick, and I have a 19" "mini" stick. Weighs just a bit over 1.75# with the rope

The original step spacing worked perfect for the 19" length (17" between steps). Plus it will stack with my LW sticks when I want just a bit extra height.

You can see why I want a different color rope lol.

Have I said how much I like this place? Lol
