Can you hunt with a crossbow out a saddleharness. If so any tips or tricks.
I used a crossbow all season. Shot 7 deer so it works great but it’s a horizontal bow so you have to account for the limbs swinging sideways. Twice my bow clicked the tree and threw my shot because I was shooting from behind and to the side of the tree and my crossbow wasn’t far enough away from the tree. I’m thinking about getting one of Tenpoint’s new skinny crossbows for next year. They are 12 inches uncocked and 7 inches cocked.

The newest bows are unbelievable in power and width... More like a shotgun all the time.

I was on line last night looking at the Ravin. I was all excited until I saw the price. Going to stick with borrowing my sons Excalibur when he’s not using it and my Helium.

yup... Crazy price so my micro is just fine.

I am just going to use my Helium.

Prices for hunting equipment and the opportunity to hunt has gotten very expensive in the last several decades or so. A huge culture and industry has been made from it. Used to be so simple and inexpensive.

I really like the concept of the Ravin, but they've had several recalls and it's a pain to get them worked on. Last time I checked you could only press them with their proprietary press, and you had to use their bolts. You're not missing anything in my book.

Re Cocking the crossbow from a saddle can offer some challenges if you aren’t set up on a platform. You put your foot through the cocking stirrup and want to press it down on something when you cock it but without a platform that’s a challenge. It just kinda hung on my foot when I was set up on Stepps. I was worried it would slip off and fall or slip off and knock me silly. Worked out fine but it’s something to think about and practice.

I have a 335...I am happy with it. I think it is 20 inches cocked. I could be wrong though and weights about 5.5 pounds.

I just got the Tenpoint Shadow NXT. I love this crossbow. It works really well for me, it's so accurate. I got the thing nearly completed in sighting it in. I can't wait to get in the saddle (recently ordered) and figure that aspect of taking shots. 6.5" axle to axle cocked / 11" uncocked. I have been thinking about making sure I don't go limb to tree. I was going to try and develop my shooting style for shots around the trunk by ensuring my elbow is out to see if that aids me in steadying and prevents me from smacking the tree. I'd be willing to take any tips/tricks in advance, as well, just to avoid developing a bad habit.

That is one sweet bow. That bow should be pretty easy to keep the limbs off the tree when firing. It is so narrow and only opens 2.5 inches on a side when fired. You should be fine if you are 6 inches away from the tree. It has such a narrow profile. I got to shoot the tenpoint NXT and Nitro x at a show. They are super nice. Not sure how the crank will work in the tree though. Do you think that will be a problem?
