Diy Sportsman and Beast Stick had a baby

Excellent points that are now obvious to me after the fact. I guess it seems that my $75 API sale impulse buy has turned into a $150 mod job (Amsteel, 1/16 tube swap, etc) and now really needs to turn into a $230 complete stick build if/when I buy lighter step parts (using almost no original API parts).

Those Beast Sticks used to seem so expensive.

Yep, I picked up a couple sets of API sale sticks but only use them for presets here on my property. Too heavy to carry around. Also, I left them stock
for my daughter to use with smaller steps. For public land and being mobile, then I use my DIY sticks which are built to my specs and lightweight.

You mean something like this

Those look great, what standoffs are you using?

Well, no one wanted the new Alpha with some older LW steps and DanO's double steps came in, soooo. Pretty much the same as Garrett's, just with repurposed LW stuff. Just need a saddle now!

Stacked with API carrying buckle. The scale says 6.24 lbs.

Still needs Stealth Strips and I plan to add a sewn 1-step aider to the bottom of each.

Was hoping for under six to get closer to my 5 WE step weight.

You have any plans for your original api tubing?

Hate to hijack this post, but what did you cut your API sticks down to? I just made 5 9’ pieces of amsteel and used a locked brummel on one end. Next step will be to cut them down for weight, packability, and the unnecessary closeness of the steps from the factory. Also looking into a 1 step aider for each step, best place to buy or easy instructions to build?

I cut them to 24".

I was planning on adding the 1 step aider to each, using webbing sewn through the slots in bottom step, but I think I'll be swapping out steps to save weight. Still not sure though. Maybe only swap the top step and still use the sewn aider.

Bought the webbing from Strapworks.com
Learning to sew a box stitch with EasyStitcher from YouTube.

You may have already seen it, but check DIY SPORTSMAN on YouTube for DIY climbing sticks. I modified a set of lone Wolf and helium's based upon his dimensions (plus DanO's double steps). Not sure if it'll work for your sticks, but great info!!
