The older I get, the more I realize I hunt and fish to reset from the daily grind. That said, I had some venison chili tonight, some rockfish on the half shell Thursday, and fried northern snakehead nuggets Tuesday. I love the reset, but always getting better.

I prefer hunting from a tree, and due to the amount of time spent in one, the majority of success is FROM hunting in a tree. However, as much as I love climbing and tinkering/testing, during hunting season I stick with what works for me, and the climbing portion becomes a means to an end. Pre-season is kind of like the days before Christmas, the anticipation of what is to come is very real, and the practice of climbing and tinkering make you feel like you're engaging what is to come!

Climbing is, without a doubt, my least favorite part of a hunt. It's a chore that I do, if I'm honest with myself, half because it is the most effective way to hunt in a majority of situations, and half to assuage my lack of confidence in killing from the ground. It's why my gear of choice, unless the tree prefers a saddle, is a hang-on and sticks, because the ease/simplicity is worth the bulk for me.
