A while ago in early October, I had a raccoon come walking by. It was almost end of shooting light. So I stuck an arrow in him. Hit him right in the middle. What a noise that made. Wow. No wind, and the sound of a screaming racoon... Lol.
So I grew up squirrel hunting and didn't truly start deer hunting until I was in my twenties. On probably my first true deer hunts, I had gone to some family property for the weekend and got put in a treestand in an oak flat alone with my 20ga Remington 870 youth model with a handful of buckshot shells. Well after a few hours of seeing nothing but squirrels, I decided I was gonna wait until a few of them were good and close and then at least take home some meat. Well I had two or three in one tree playing together and decided now is the time and I start blasting away. When my dad came to pick me up a short while later, he said "Son, how many were there? Did you get it?" When I produced a single fox squirrel, he just laughed and said "You can't kill deer if you only shoot at squirrels. I thought you had a herd of them come in and you was giving them hell." Well from then on I try to only shoot at deer when I deer hunt, key word "try".
I am an opportunistic predator. Deer hunts turn into coyote hunts, duck hunts turn into squirrel hunts, squirrwl hunts turn into hog hunts.
Heck, sometimes fishing turns into hunting or hunting turns into fishing. I've shot a lot of squirrels out of the canoe with my buckmark and caught a 35lb blue this year on my way back from a hog hunt.

Yeh, If I would have been invited on the royal fox hunts, I crack up at the faces of all the important people when I came back with my horse dragging every wild thing that crossed my path. We huntin' or kissin' babies fellas?
