The only way I think you couldn’t beat yourself is using some 8mm instead. Would greatly reduce your bulk. Though, you would likely need to add gloves and a friction saver so maybe it’s a wash. Lol

That was my opinion as well.

Out doing another practice climb today and found another hunter’s throw ball stuck over the limb that I got my rope over and back down to me with this method.
I guess like they say there is more than one way to skin a cat.

Nice! Thats pretty fast. Do you have a lot of trees in your area that this works well in? My biggest problem is just finding a tree with a suitable branch within reach.

I have some pretty old, very big, and very tall trees in one public land area I hunt but I find they seem to all have a leg sized limb I can get a preset on to climb around 30-40 ft. It’s in the hills so some times it’s nice to get 30-40 ft up because it puts you just at or above the deer on the ridges.

I find that too with the trees I can use. I usually get 30 feet up in those huge old trees.

Yea if I’m in a bigger tree I can really zoom. This tree is a twig and it will wobble and I get a little sketched. It is fast for as simple as it is. All that credit to the Garda hitch foot loop in my mind. It exits the carabiners up and so instead of grabbing say a hitch or mechanical device and pushing it up and having to hold the rope taught below it or something you can simply pull up on the rope and the slack comes out effortlessly. I think from a ergonomic stand point it is easier to progress it in this way as well. Then once you’re standing on the Garda, it’s ergonomic to stand and push the Michoacán’s up because the rope is tight making them progress effortlessly.

I remember when I would have gone up that thing on screw in steps in muddy boots with no safety gear of any kind. Good Lord is the only reason I outlived my blatant stupidity and I try to always remember that now. Perspective that generally comes with age I suppose.

I keep saying I’m not going to climb her but every year she blooms and feels solid lol. I always get a kick out of the comments about the tree because it is seriously sketchy looking. I would say that my feet would be close to 22-25 feet where I finished.

I also started with Drt climbing and liked it but have moved to the Jrb climbing and like that better. Once you have your rope set up you don't tie any knots in the woods.

Its really cool to get on one of these threads and see u guys sharing information and safely using some of the tools i helped put in your toolbox. Well done.

Having done MRS/DRT for 12 years, i am not putting it down, but JRB is definitely my preference. Its faster, easier, safer and more versatile. This video is over a year old... and it was the very first time I ever did a timed climb. Believe it or not, I am faster now. The JRB Ascender Hitch is pretty amazing... and I had not devised it when this video was made.
