do you ever run into any problems with the rope getting hung up in the crotch of the tree when you are climbing

I am new to all this and interested in your experiences

If you mean have I ever had the rope get hung up as it runs thru the crotch as you climb/descend, only once in probably a 1000 climbs. I tossed a line into a very tight V high up and was unable to climb up. This is very rare though and you'll find out on the ground, in a hunting situation it would be even less likely as you can see you TIP (tie in point) easier. We had a set of binos in the work truck if we wanted to check our high TIPs set from the ground. As long as your TIP is in a L to V shape branch and not a tight V you'll have no problem.

If you start climbing recreationally and start jumping down thru other branches which redirect your line it'll add more friction in your system and you'll get stuck eventually. Someone in another thread said correctly that D(b)RT is/was the bread and butter of tree climbing and as someone that teaches rec climbing to my friends its a great place to start because you can drop ALL your gear by accident and as long as you didn't take your harness off or drop your rope you can self-rescue. That being said, SRT (if you anchored at the base) is better if you lost consciousness because you could be lowered by a rescuer without them climbing to you.
