First archery buck out of the saddle!

Two hours before daylight in my experience. We were pushing it that morning. We made it up the tree 1.5 hours before and my brother didn't even have time to get his bow off the ground before his buck came in and bedded.

It depends on the deer. I have one nice bucks bed pegged on my 100 acre lease and then be been catching him on camera about 4:30 a few days a week so I would say two hours at a minimum. Of course he’s still 300 yards from his bed at 4:30 but 200 of that’s fairly open land so I would say it doesn’t take him long to go that last 300 yards.

That buck I shot was really hoofing it to get back to his bed before daylight. He was just a tad late and I think the cold front might have had something to do with that. I bet he covered the last hundred yards in less than a minute. He made a ton of noise but he still stopped by the acorns closest to his bed just long enough to give me a shot opportunity.

Thanks man. I probably would not have shot that deer out of a conventional treestand because the other buck had found my bottom WE step and was trying to pick me out of the tree. If I would have been on the front side of the tree in a stand I believe he would have spooked and took my buck with him before I got off a shot. I started saddle hunting due to your early videos and those of the DIY Sportsman so I killed that buck with direct assistance from you guys. I can't thank you enough....although my wife is getting irritated that another head is going on the wall!
 
Congrats BudgetBuck1! That is a beautiful buck and a really well executed hunt. I just started doing a lot of work down in Hickory and hope to get some out-of-state tags to fill during some extended work trips. Beautiful area.

I live 10 miles North of Hickory, in Taylorsville. Small world.
 
Budgetbuck1, first off dandy buck. Did you have the area scouted or did you find fresh sign and hunt it?
 
That's a HOSS!!! Nice deer and congratulations. Try to keep that darkening on the antlers if you can!!! Such character for that rack with already a lot going on!!

Never hunted it before....I scouted and found the freshest sign in the area with an active scrape, freshly shredded trees, acorns, buck scat and within 100 yards of where I thought the bed would be. I was wrong on the bed. I was 25 yards from his bed and didn't realize it until after I shot him. The sign was located just above the first knolls on the finger ridges off the main ridge which is where I usually find the best bedding, just before it gets really steep.
