Awesome! Did you make an modifications to it? What things do you recommend and how are you fastening your dump pouches and other pieces of saddle kit? Pics would be great too. Congrats on the nice Doe!!!

I made a post on page 8 detailing mods and pics.

I'm waiting on mine. But this notch really got me thinking.

I climb comm towers for work and I'll run an Elk River in the summer and a DBI Sala in the Winter. Both have seats, the ER is sewn in place and the DBI is adjustable and removable.

For some back ground, I've been in an Areohunter Kestrel for about 4 years, and shot one deer out of it, been busted about 20 times though. (Killed about 10 deer off the ground since then)

I like the idea of saddles (light weight, quiet, climb any tree). But at least in my Kestrel, I fidget too much, and it's not really comfortable.

Now taking a hard look at the amount of time I spend per activity while hunting, it makes since to actually prioritize comfort.

30 - 60 min walk in.
15-30 min set up.
4 - 12 Hours Hunting.
15-30 min take down.
30-60 min walk out.

As you can see from my numbers even in my shortest sits, and my longest walk in, I'm actually spending about 60% of my time sitting. So it goes to say that I should prioritize comfort over ease of set up and system weight.
JX3 my brother. If you look up comfort on google you will see a picture of a guy hunting out of a JX3.

Hello fellow hunters!

I Just joined this morning, my first post!

Came across Saddle hunting on the old "tic toc" lol.... never seen this before and had no clue this was a thing. I'm very intrigued but don't want to dump a bunch of money into a saddle. This saddle looks and from the sounds of it from you all, is a decent entry level/ intermediate saddle for a great price. Only problem is i'm 5'11" and 240 ish (38 waist) and the size 2 Floating D is out of stock... so my question- will the other saddle work just fine?

I'm excited to give this a try and start practicing for next year already!

Thanks! this forum looks to be a great community of hunting enthusiast!

I'm 185 with a 33" waist and there seems to be a lot of room but the specs. say 28-35" I believe? Remember its a final sale "FS" item so you cannot return it if it doesn't fit.

Right,

the double D style is instock size 2. I'm thinking about pulling the trigger on that one! just need someone to push me off the ledge to hit purchase! lol

Not sure about the 4D as I only have the Floating D but so far I think I'm going to like it a lot. Not to complicate things for you but I am strongly considering selling my 2019 Trophyline Ambush Lite Saddle (only) in size L/XL. It's a little too big for me and although I really like it, I don't need it. If you're interested PM me I'll give you a price.

I bought the the size 2 floating D and have sat in it for a few minutes. I think it will be comfortable for me with a 34" waist. Whether or not it would be comfortable for a 38" waist? I would say "possibly". It's hard to tell because everyone is different in what saddles are comfortable for them.

With that said I can't see the double D working well for hunting saddle without some major modifications. The fixed connection points won't allow any rotating, which is really important.

It looks like @gcr0003 has offered his floating D up for sale in post #172. I would jump on it quickly before I delete the post because it is supposed to be in the classifieds section. :)

I used camo gorilla tape to silence the D rings.
I added a sling and a carabiner to serve as a second bridge attached to the lineman’s D rings. I use the bag I got with my kestrel and I attach it with a small carabiner to the left side lineman’s D ring. Once I get up in the tree, I take that bag off the saddle and hang it on my utility strap. And I putCA1A4005-24A5-496B-9A45-764D0EE8D21B.jpegD7CBCF98-D0ED-408E-A778-65B90188AE98.jpegE0B4E801-8391-499A-A2B6-23ECCF752A2F.jpegE845FEEB-A464-4620-8DEC-213DD6AE383C.jpeg998779CD-A16F-45D2-A74A-287E0386035E.jpeg a carabiner on the middle utility loop on the back of the saddle to attach my dear drag rope. The saddle did want to kind of fall down a little bit, (and I was going uphill which made the deer’s weight pull my saddle down even more) but it was good enough to drag the deer out of the woods relatively easily.

So why the secondary bridge? Did that help you function the upper part of the saddle more as a backband or?

I posted the link it to the classifieds add. I thought it would be ok. I’ll delete it. Sorry boss!

Got mine in 4 days, well made and comfortable, what a deal!

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I got mine 4 days ago but been so insanely busy I literally barely have had time to get in 5-6 hours of sleep a night and have had no time to try out the saddle
Hell I didn't even remove it from its plastic shipping bag yet. Just pulled it out of the box looked at it and put it back in the box.
Will finally get some free time in the next few days and will hopefully be able to test drive it.

To be 100% honest my single biggest concern and fear about hunting out of any saddle is being able to shoot my compound from any and all positions and I felt my options were:
#1-Buy a rock climbing harness off Ebay for a little less than $50 and use it to test shoot my bow and was my original plan
#2-Found this floating D saddle for essentially $16 more dollars so I figured $66 is an acceptable financially sound risk VS investing closer to $300 to to accomplish the same thing and I am confident I could resell it to recover at least 50-60% of my cost so worst-case scenario I will be out less than $40

Yeah a lot going on in my life too. Trying to find an hour or so during the day when either I'm not working or something else isn't going on to hang in the Notch Floating D. I put a couple of pouches on it and vet wrapped the floating D. I'm thinking of wrapping the LB loops as well. I think I'm gonna like this thing but gotta hang in it still!! I'll try and post my review when I find some time to do it when it either isn't dark or raining!!!!
