Form break downs

Hey all,
Been involved with archery for a couple of years now. I'm a target archer and i try to be a hunter. I'm pretty big on form and executing shots. I practice mostly 60 yards and beyond. While i've taken some shots out of treestands i'm curious of your shot breaks down or if you have to fudge your shot at all while in a saddle? Anyone hunt back tension and have you seen problems?

I shoot a recurve and yes it is harder to keep from for me.

Perfect form to me is something that's practically unobtainable in the field. I don't strive for it. I try to practice from my saddle frequently, and strive for killin' size groups at 40 yards maximum. I usually don't shoot past 30, and have no problems killing deer at that distance.

One of the hardest transitions for target archers to hunting is changing the definition of a successful shot. In target archery, there are points systems to define success. In hunting success is a dead critter. There isn't less and more dead. Just dead or not dead.

I think you can set reasonable targets for yourself understanding what you can do standing, no rush versus what you can do hopped up on adrenaline and suspended from a tree. I practice with my hunting rig all the way to 100 yards with the understanding i can more than likely make an ethical kill at 30.

There defiantly are more and less deadly shots.

Agreed. However, any variation of double-hung, lung and heart, or even the ole livershot will result in a very "more dead" deer. There's a lot of real estate in the vitals compared to a bull's-eye.

I understand it’s a lot bigger target but Don’t we all want a heart shot? A heart shot deer isn’t leaving your property.

Careful you don't jinx yourself brother. I've seen deer go a LONG way shot every which-way. Heart shot, broke shoulder, whatever. If I'm hunting a spot where there's not enough room to blood trail, I take the 30-06 and try to break both shoulders.

Anything can happen, but I'm pretty confident in about any combo of arrow to the ribcage.

Anywho, shooting form. I wanna see G2 chime in about some of those crazy upside-down positions I seen on the ''tube!

For some reason I shoot my recurve better out of a saddle. I was surprised that the 1 o'clock to the 3 olclock shot on my rite side was solid. I love how I get great back tension out of a saddle.
