Just moved to Northern Georgia last week for a new job. My family is still back in Michigan until the end of November. Just picked up the hunting and fishing guides and read them cover to cover only to be severely disappointed. I brought my hunting equipment with me with hopes of getting some tree stand time in to help pass the time without my family being here with me. But i find out today that I have to be a resident of the state of Georgia for 3 months to be considered a “resident”. So unless I purchase a nonresident license, which I can’t afford at this time I’ll being sitting this season out

How much is a non resident if you don't mind me asking.

How do they know if you've been there 3 months or not. Once you get a bill in your name shouldn't you be able to go to the DMV and get state driver's license? I'm not saying you hadn't checked in on this I'm just curious. And I'm not telling you to be dishonest but I think I might try to pull the wool over somebody's eyes on this one.

I’m not sure, I was wondering the same thing. Once I have my drivers license switched how will they tell?

I just thought about this but I bet it has to do with the issue date. Driver's licenses are renewed on birthdays, at least in Louisiana they are. So if your issue date is different from your birthday and if it is within 3 months they may not issue you a hunting license. I know here in Louisiana you could get away with getting the hunting license as long as you had your hunter safety certification done. However I do not think you would pull the wool over a game wardens eyes when he was checking all your information.

Well I hate to see you get in any trouble and I also hate to see a man missing entire hunting season just because he's strapped financially trying to move his family from one part of the country to another. I think those kind of rules that states put forth or kind of silly in my opinion, but I guess they have their reasons. I tell you what I don't know if any of the other guys are willing to do it or if you have a PayPal account I will PayPal you some money to help cover the cost of your hunting license so you do not have to miss an entire season.

That is a heart breaker.
I'm a diehard squirrel hunter, so I think I would check into small game only license. If the price was low enough I would be in the woods popping bushytails and scouting deer for next season or even for later this winter.

That’s what I love about this group, you guys are all about helping other hunters out and trying to better other sportsman. I GREATLY appreciate the offer but wouldn’t feel right doing that. It’s gonna be tough but I’ll just live through all your posts this season.

Dude they tried this when I moved to Arkansas. Day three I went and got the resident sportmans hunt fish combo no problem. You think the guy that sucks at life behind the counter at walmart checked me on this? I went fishing within 4 days of showing up in this state for the first time.

You can buy your hunting license online. Three months is nothing. Alaska and Wyoming require 12 months. If you moved here August 1st your eligible for resident license by November 1st. I’m not sure what all you were adding on but you can hunt anything in Georgia for like 330 plus a duck stamp. 325 if you don’t want to shoot dove. That’s still expensive but not like a elk tag that’s only good for a five day season.
