So I’ve done the rounds with hunting clothing over the years and have usually whatever I buy only makes it a year b4 I’m ready to try something new. Over the last 2-3 years I’ve been using Sitka whitetail stuff and will say I really enjoy it and instead of selling it all I’ve been just refining my system. For some darn reason wool is coming into my head. I haven’t used it in years since I was a kid with my dad. What are your guys thoughts. I see quality stuff is gonna cost about the same as Sitka so just looking for recommendations. I hunt New England and ohio so can see some temps hovering around 0 late season but most is between 25-65 I would say.

I live in and hunt new england , I have updated all my hunting clothes , base layers and hats to wool. Some lightweight and some with the primaloft liner for cool to cold. Even my boots have the primaloft liner. Best decision I ever made for hunting clothing besides the shannon bug tamer for early season but thats another topic lol. Wool has gone up but it is worth it. Check out LL Bean , its where I purchased everything over the last three years , I couldn’t be happier with them.

I'm a Sitka guy, even though it is expensive. First lite and Sitka base layers, but the outer layer fit and pocket location is what keeps me with them. Have used some great Cabela's whitetail gear, but always felt like the Michelin man. Even with Nebraska temps well below freezing, I can still stay warm and comfortably move around. Had the Fanatic jacket/bibs on yesterday (with my new saddle). Hand warmer pockets and cargo pockets easily accessible. Merino wool and windstopper gotta be a part of whatever system, in my opinion.

Asbell wool isn't very expensive, it's awesome stuff. I think the pourous effects of wool adds 'depth' to it's camouflage value making it blend far better than printed camo.

I have all merino bases as well I’m more thinking about wool outer layers instead of the Sitka.

I had the Cabela's woolimate, that stuff was so heavy, not that warm, and would pick up briars walking through a parking lot.... synthetic is the way to go for outer layers, the warmth to weight ratio doesn't compare.

I go through the camo dilemma every year as well. Always looking for something better. But I came to the conclusion that my Cabela's octane is comfortable, functional, and it works. Can't be too far away from kuiu or Sitka minus the cool logo. So I just use that couple grand on other things I need more.

I’m a Kuiu fan. Started out with there merino and loved wearing it all day and even to sleep in at the camp. Very comfortable and cozy. But I find wool doesn’t dry out as fast and if i perspire, it starts to feel clammy after a while. Still warm though. So I swapped to synthetics and I stay just as warm and dry and crisp all day. This is my favorite. Super light for its insulation ability.

I live in Northern New England. Our rifle season is 3 weeks in Nov and muzzle a week in Dec. depending on the day and if I’m stalking or tracking depends on my base layers. But my outerwear is silent predator wool pants and a beagle wear tracker wool coat. These items aren’t cheap but last forever or until you out grow them. I also have a few pairs of codet wool green pants and a couple Johnson wool coats I bought our that where handed down. Typically I would suggest a good quality wool pant and jacket. Than get a back up for each. Than if your hunting in snow or rain you have dry clothes for day two. If you interested I have a beagle stalker wool jacket in advantage Camo size large I’m selling for my dad. He’s out grown it and it’s only been in the woods 4 or 5 times. Bought it new a few years before beagle went out of business. Pm me if you want more info.

Multiple thin layers of merino wool picked up at the thrift store for cheap. Outer plaid old woolrich jacket.or camo fleece. Lower merino wool base layer with a pair of under armour heavy base layer with camo pants. Pretty warm down to about 20* I love cheap wool. I'm always looking for more. Also hot toes stuck to your shoulder blades are priceless. Only lacking in wet weather gear.....

X2 on the Asbell Wool. I hunt the southeast so I don't deal with the crazy cold temps. However, I like having a hood and the Kangaroo pouch in the front.

What asbell items are you guys using? I like a hoodie, but the size of that hood seems a bit outrageous.

I jhave a pathfinder hoodie in olive drab. It's awesome. Arms are streamlined and tight for shooting bow, hood is actualy a great size. I'ts warm, the lengthis grat for sitting and it not pulling up your back. I wear mine a lot!

I also have old wool from columbia that I realy like(Gallatin series I think?) warm, comfy, silent and repells water a tad. Have a ton of Johnson woolen mills stuff as well, but really ever just hunt in their classic green pants.
