My advice is to go for it. Once you have acquired that new degree or skills, nobody can take it from you. If your employer will foot some of or all of the cost, that's a great deal that you can't afford to pass up. Good luck!
My work paid for me to go back. I am a nurse and had an associate degree. I went back for my bachelors when I was 52. It took two years. It wasn't hard but took 10-20 hours a week and that was painful. Probably going back for my masters next year. I set aside one to two days a week 8-5 to do school work. Treated it like a job. Wasn't hard but the time commitment was kinda painful. Good luck if you go back. Put the time in and it will be easy.Anyone here go back to college later in life? I’m 46 been out of college since 1998. I’m planning on going back for a mechatronics engineering degree. Any advice?

Good luck man! I just got back into the silliness. After a bit of soul-searching, I've decided that the next step after buying my dream home on the river is never having to leave it. Trying to slowly figure out the path to working at home. That, and my current employer will throw some extra pesos at me for a degree anyway.Went and signed up last night. So there is my first step. I have to call and get transcripts headed this way.
They lady said some of my certifications over the last 20 years may count for college credit. That would be flipping awesome! Alas I’m not that lucky but it would rock! Lol
I could fill a 20 yard roll off dumpster with certificates!

I chose to become a Maintenance man, I went to school for instrumentation and controls. I have no problem programming. I specialize in control circuits. but now days they don't want you to do just that so I find myself pushing my 1000 lb box all over the plant. I cannot see myself doing this at 65. What I'm thinking is going to work for one of these engineering firms that do upgrades on existing machinery in plants. I don't think I would get hired based on my work experience and to tell the truth I haven't kept up with the new Allen Bradley programming as I should have it hasn't been beneficial to spend the money the last few years
so Mechantronics seem to be right up my alley and will boost my skills to where they need to be
You say you think they won’t hire you based on your present education . Ask. It is very very hard to find good people today.
People who show up, and do their best. Maybe you would be surprised
Ask. Ask. Ask Maybe you could avoid the education
Good luck on whatever you decide

In today’s manufacturing environment they are able to hire young men with electrical/ mechanical Degrees for maintenance. I’m wanting to specialize in mechatronics.
I am going to apply at GM and Jack Daniels this week to see what they have to offer. The mechatronics lab is located inside GM.
