Found a spot I wanted to hunt and I really felt like it was a morning hunt spot, so out I go this morning. It is pretty thick so I only have a few shooting lanes and no shot longer than 12 yards. The tree that give me the best shots, I can only go about 8-10 ft (to my platform) before limbs further compromise my shots.
I am in the tree at 6am, a full hour before sunrise. I sit patiently until 9am. The wind is coming from my right so I am watching forward and right. I glance left (downwind), and about 20 yards out but still in thick stuff with no shot is a small buck. I really could not make out his head to well and this area requires 4 pts on a side to be legal; not sure if he would have made it. Anyway, as I am watching him, breeze picks up, his head goes up and instead of continuing to me, he makes a hard right turn and gives me the deer equivalent of a middle finger... Still a good day to be in the woods.
I have been out twice this year. Seen deer both times and put one in the freezer, so I guess a pretty good start to the season
