Great Year for Morels in Kentucky

What is your favorite way to prepare these?
Do the wild one taste different than store bought? Really getting inspired to try and actually find some wild mushrooms, I need to get the app first though. Not sure if Southeast Georgia has a good selection.

My wife has always fixed them like this!
Soak in salt water for a few hours before preparing
Cut them in half length ways if they are big
Roll them in Ky Kernel Flour
Deep fry till golden brown
She normally fixes them with fried potatoes and cornbread
Absolutely Delicious!!!!!

Northwest Indiana, we usually find small grey early. First outing was the paper towel, second was the glass table. Found a couple yellows. So much fun to hunt!!

There's a long thread on my local deer forum about these. People finding them all over. I've never seen one or eaten one, but would like to. The recipe @Seekbigger listed sounds delicious!

On a side note - yall ever see something like this and wonder what was going through the head of the first person to eat it? They look kinda gross. Like pomegranates. They look disgusting but are delicious. But who watched a chicken pop an egg out its butt and think "Ooooo I gotta EAT THAT!"????

Just something I've pondered from time to time.

I actually am curious about how anyone figured out what is edible and what isn't, especially for things like mushrooms where so many of them are really poisonous. Was there one dummy every generation that everyone else watched and after enough dummies bit the dust, they had a general idea of which ones were safe? Did they watch what animals would eat?

I found 3 decent sized morels today. This was the best one. Another had a bite taken out of the top and the 3rd was starting to dry out so I don't know how well it will cook up tommorrow.

We've had a pretty good year here, but objectively not that great. I think we found around 20 on our place and a lot were really small. However, that's about 15 more than our usual.

Are there environmental factors that help the growth of these? Where would one look for such a mushroom? Near streams? Swampy areas?
