Alright, gents, I just bought some Hawk Helium cut off steps from @Rymanco and I got them today. My original idea was to make some mini one step sticks out of them. 2 custom brackets and an amstel rope mod and I'm done. I was thinking with a serious aider they might be worth the trouble. I'll try and take and post some photos, if I ever get there on this project.

Anyway, I was curious what other folks had done with them, if anything, or if anyone had any other ideas that might be better. I think someone posted a photo of a ring of steps, I need to find that one.

Curious how the mini stick idea works for you. I had tried that with my cutoffs but had trouble with there not being enough length to stay stable on the tree. As they slid down slightly to tighten the rope the lower standoff wanted to pull away from the tree. Hopefully you have better luck. :)

I would use one standoff towards the top and use 3 points of contact with the tree and make super mini sticks with a movable aider. Or at least that’s what I would try.
Put the standoff to where the top of the stick is the same distance off the tree and sturdy as a full stick. The bottom of the stick would dig in to the tree like a Wildedge Step

Thats interesting, maybe I won't try the amstel rope method, maybe a strap, thanks for the inputs!

Just so I'm clear, you are thinking just one bracket up top and the the bottom of the stick would be the other point of contact? Also do you think a strap would fix the issue? I'm not opposed to using a ratchet strap.

Yes exactly. that’s what I would try. I would put a versa button just below the top bracket. It should be plenty with the rope mod.

I'll def give it a try, I like the one less bracket idea to keep them as light as possible.

Here are the pics of the steps I made, I used the stock Hawk strap but @redsquirrel used a boat buckle. I like his set up a bit better, it sounds like it gets tighter than the ratchet strap. I had to bolt two steps together to get the stability I wanted but if I could get away with just single steps I think I would. I actually just got a boat buckle from good ol amazon but I haven't messed with it just yet.IMG_7102.JPG IMG_7103.JPG IMG_7102.JPG IMG_7103.JPG IMG_7101.JPG

Nice, I've got a few Ameristeps on a boat buckle, so don't think I would use this mod, great job though. I think I'm gonna try the miniature stick mod. Need to get working on that btw, lol. Maybe this weekend, lol.

All I need to do is break out a strap for an inexpensive ring of ring of steps. Thanks @T.Clarke and @Bwhana. I've never tried a ROS before but this gives me something more to play with this summer.

Cool to see those come together literally! Always comes down to personal preference, but for me and many others on here, a ROS allows a more natural/comfortable foot position for sitting. A platform feels better when I lean. I now have a Predator, Perch, and Squirrel Steps, and plan to use a combination to make it best for me. Will be interested to see how you like those with practice.

Look really nice, curious if they slide down the tree, might need some sort of teeth on the back, could make cut in some pretty easy.
