So I have a set of the hawk helium 20 inch sticks. When you lock them together they are almost impossible to separate. I broke 3 of the male connectors and hawk is send replacements. What modifications have you done to be able to separate these a little easier?

Search on here for wallering (technical word) out the female side. It’ll get easy. Mine broke. Mine got removed. Never noticed.

You can also sand the male end down a bit. I had to sand mine AND cut out the ring of the female end. Hawk sucks at quality but man the hawk minis are the greatest value in all of saddle hunting. Great sticks, great price, lousy company and God awful customer service.

Forget sanding and cutting the stock suction cups, they suck and will still break off. Just get some rubber suction cup/buttons designed to hold camper doors open. They are actually made of rubber and are more pliable. They snap together and come apart a lot easier. Just need 2 pairs to hold three sticks together. There are alot of threads on here with the actual name and amazon link.

I guess I'll resurrect the thread with a true story.

Using a utility knife and cutting the ring out of the female cup worked like a charm.

Forget modding these sticks. I stack all four sticks like normal except the last stick. On your last stick, instead of wrapping the tether around itself, wrap it around ALL four sticks (or however many you use). I can make three full passes around four sticks, then attach it to its own versa button. This will secure all sticks together and make it more secure when carrying. You wont have to worry about them coming apart. See image.

You mean these things that showed up warped beyond repair? Take them off and throw them in the trash... Problem solved.

I took a box cutter to the ridge in the female portion of the suction cup. Worked good.
I am going to look up the ones that hold camper doors open though, cause if you can mod something why wouldn’t you?

That solution doesn't work for me because I use Daisy Chained Amsteel.

I used a dremel and removed about 60% of that lip inside the female end and they work PERFECTLY! So simple even I could do it…….regardless something HAS to be done cause you ain’t getting them apart without some kind of mod!

While I believe just about everyone has the strength to break them loose the way they arrive from the factory, I didn't like how they bashed against each other when they finally come loose. LOT's of NOISE!

How many come in a pack? I just got some Heliums and have trimmed the inside of the cups a bit but they are still pretty snug.
Trim them a bit more. If they're still too damn tight, trim them again.

I used a utility knife and got the desired result with only 1/8" +/- removed.

I ended up working on them a bit more with a utility knife and a pocket knife. They seem to be easier to get apart.
