This dude is one of us... ( @onestringer )
Sweet, thanks. I admit I was sweating a little the further up he got. I guess learning to trust your gear comes with practice. With that said I started piecing together a kit I can start using on my own property. I have some pretty decent trees I could at least start with and even start shooting from to get used to the real thing. I was also thinking a light weight hang on stand may be a good start (afraid to mention that in a saddle forum) so my question after looking at what is out there is:

Can a basic climbing/repelling harness like this be used for tree stand hunting/practicing? Also this looks similar to a saddle, could it be used as such? (forgive the ignorance)

or would it be wiser to get an actual tree stand harness like this where the tether is high on the back?

After your advice yesterday and watching this youtube video, I got the idea to try the one stick climbing method with a lightweight hang-on stand to climb up and the use the ATC Guide and prusik knot to descend. The idea being to keep things light weight enough to hike further on a hunt. But after watching Onestringer's video the 4 stick method has me re-thinking things. Here is the gear list I have so far:

Harness - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00IYWZP3I/ref=ox_sc_act_title_9?smid=A3BRDI0NFEHJ0O&psc=1
Rope 32ft 10.5mm -https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0924L6PVP/ref=ox_sc_act_title_6?smid=A2TUMBERC6OS6Q&psc=1

gear hoist/line retrieval - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00BD54X4U/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&psc=1
stand - https://www.amazon.com/Ameristep-82...coding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=VN18190X9BVE40RCJGYS

As far as sticks go, there are some seemingly cheaper options but I really like the Hawk Helium (I think onestinger was using these in the video)

Let me know what you all think please.

Buy climbing rated ropes and like @Bigterp said "watch the Classifieds here for used stuff"...
