Hello from North Texas..

Hi all, I’m grew up hunting Nebraska and currently live down in Texas. I am relatively new to bow hunting and have been absorbing as much info as I can.

I recently stumbled using this site and the concept of saddle hunting. I grew up mainly ground hunting and can think of many times I wish I was able to easily get up into a tree. I am looking forward to learning a lot here!

When I was stationed there, I was taller than any of the trees. You don't need a saddle, you need a lawn chair.

Ha I was thinking more of trees in Nebraska or when I go out to east Texas. In north Texas you are lucky to be low enough in a lawn chair but then you have to watch out for thorns and fire ants.

I was in San Angelo, Altus(OK) and drove many times to Wichita Falls.

What I learned was:
1. Jackrabbits are mean
2. Texas skunks are friendly
3. Cactus hurt
4. Speedbumps (armadillo) are only seen dead on the road

I don’t currently have a saddle. I initially looked at tetherd or Hawke Helium but there are quite a few options to consider. It’s not a cheap investment so I’ll probably need some additional research.

Also thought about making one with the sit drag. My only concern there is making one that will give me a decent experience rather than a crappy one that keeps me from giving saddle hunting a true go.

Welcome from a fellow Texan. I hunt the SHNF on a regular basis. Saddle hunting certainly main those long walk in much easier.
