How Much Total Weight do You Carry

I'm a first year saddle hunter. This thread is interesting.

Right now, I'm right at about 25lbs with the Hybrid w/o weapon. It'd be interesting to break it down between pack, saddle, and climbing method. Weighing each separately, my saddle is like 11 lbs (but that includes ropes, my knife on the belt, my tree hopper drill, doyle's hunting hoist, and a dump pouch with pruners and folding saw). My pack is around 10 lbs with the rest being climbing system.

I plan on bringing 1 cutdown LW stick plus and aider and tree hopper drill and 10 bolts. I may use them in combination (1st stick gets me to 6.5 feet real quick and then I use bolts. I could just one-stick or just use bolts. Obviously, I could save some weight there by choosing one method....2 lbs or so I guess.

I noticed most guys don't seem to be bring binos, some don't seem to have two ropes (tether and LB). I don't see calls/grunt tube. I don't see alot of purners and saws (which I can't imagine leaving behind). I have all my gear in a fanny pack and it still weighs nearly 10 lbs. I have to figure out what extra I'm bringing in there....
25lbs is probably pretty manageable +/- a couple of pounds. Guys are pretty spread put here on this thread...trying to figure out what is a reasonable and average weight you should carry as a saddle hunter

It definitely should count. If we are comparing getting up in a tree, it is needed. Clothes, boots and weapons can be used ground hunting.

IMO, not counting saddle and gear on the saddle because you “wear” it is a feeble attempt at making oneself look better or trying to be a saddle apologist.

Weigh it and let the chips fall where they may.
I only mentioned it b/c if you are comparing a complete kit weight, many times a stand setup doesn’t take into account wearing in an hss or similar harness (which is similar in weight to a saddle) I’m not pushing one way or another, I could care less how much weight everyone carries in & out of the woods. Was just pointing out that if you are comparing a saddle setup vs. a treestand setup what all is being weighed. I’m not an ounces guy & not super worried about it. I could crush it hard at the gym & lose more weight that way than I ever will by shaving weight in my pack setup......

Wow, I'm currently at 26lbs without considering my bow and water...
Ha! I forgot to include bow and quiver and binos. That adds another 8ish for me. Now I too need to re-weigh everything. I might have been selling myself short on what I was carrying last year and what I will be carrying this year.

Food for thought but should the saddle count towards your weight if your wearing it & it’s not in a pack?? B/c then we should start weighing clothes & boots & weapons.......
That's why I'm only hunting with a loin cloth under a sit-drag, cutting weight is crucial. Crocs are almost weightless too. If ya'll like i will selfie and change my avatar pic, let me know. Actually I'm between 15 lbs and 22 lbs depending on all day or 1/2 day hunt

It just depends on the hunt. Sometimes I’m around 10lbs and others I carry 30lbs. An evening preset hunt on private and 10lbs will include my bow and saddle. If my son is with me it’s more like 40 lbs but water and food account for about half of that.

It seems like the largest common factor is your climbing method. Not to point out the obvious I guess. I carry 3 hawk helium sticks which cost me a few lbs but they pack well so it doesn't matter all that much to me. Im walking a mile plus wherever I go and I'd rather carry a few extra pounds to save a few minutes at the tree.

how do you carry your heliums? the climbing system is most definitely the deciding factor on weight. i have settled on heliums because i can climb them quickly, they are secure, and quiet to setup. however, they are a pain to carry. I also go mile plus deep and i have been toying with various ways to carry my heliums. i wish there was a backpack specifically made for carrying climbing sticks.

Game plan crossover pack. Heliums lay flat which lowers the overall profile. I actually had a trail camera, bottle of water, and spare batteries in my pack along with my mantis and was sub 24lbs.

i wish they still made those packs. when i take 3 heliums i use a molle frame pack. when i pack 2 sticks, i use an alps trailblazer pack. however, i'd love a backpack that can handle 3 sticks and my platform and room for some small gear.

I am determined to stay under 20lbs.......not including saddle, linemans belt, tether and carabiners.

I wasn’t trying to be snarky. Apologies. I think safety harness should be included for stand hunters.

For me, at least, my best bet is hittin the gym more and pushing away from the table more. They are my low hanging fruit for lowering weight.

FWIW, I think I am around 35 lbs. I’ll have to confirm as it gets closer to season. I may change my sticks and platform this year.

I don’t weigh it. I have my methods. I wear what I need for the weather to stay warm.

Weight I can handle.... it's bulk I cant stand. I'd take a 30lb compact kit over 10lb bulky set-up any day.

That exactly. Furthermore, how weight is distributed for carrying is an important factor. 30 pounds in a properly adjusted pack with a hip belt is going to be much more pleasant to carry than 20 pounds in a flimsy pack with just shoulder straps and no frame to distribute weight.

My base weight is somewhere around 15 pounds but I can easily double that with heavy late season clothing, gloves, hats, boot covers, and enough water to hike a long ways and sit all day. I wouldn't consider any of that stuff extra and I would consider it a real boneheaded move to wear all that gear in just to reduce my pack weight.

My Alps Outdoorz Pursuit pack loaded with everything:

40 ft Climbing Rope, Throw Rope/weight, 1 QT Water, GPS, Call, Knife, extra batteries, 2 Headlamps, Bow/Pack holder, Pull Up Rope, Drag Rope, milkweed, knee pads, camera, camera arm.
(12 lbs)
I wear my Tethrd Mantis Saddle with attached pouches containing:
3 Carabiners, 2 Runners, Tether with ropeman, Petzl Hand ascender, Singing tree Foot Strap, Madrock Safeguard, 1 WE Step
(5lbs)
I also wear my Vortex Binos.
(1.5 lbs)
Carry my...Hoyt Bow with quiver 3 arrows
(3.8 lbs)

Grand Total 18.5lbs (plus bow)
Grand Total 22.3lbs (including bow....)

No worries at all , just wanted to explain so you didn’t think I was off the rails , trying to exclude every piece of gear by strapping it to my body like the Michelin man . Then saying my pack weighs 3lbs......

Saddle setup varies, anywhere from right around 6lbs to 10+. Anderson and cf bolts, plus above other stuff(4 cranford t steps for ros) or greens saddle depending on spot, weather, and time. Add 1lb ish for public land and using strap on aluminum steps (10)
