If you could only own one saddle to use with both a platform and a LWCG .5, and your hunts are typically 3-4 hours long, what would you go with?

Personally, I would use the Recon sling, but I haven't used it in conjunction with a platform or small lock on stand. It's a very comfortable saddle for me and I like it. I use ring of steps so this may be apples and oranges. One of the big questions is do you prefer to sit mostly, or do you lean?

I do really like the look of the LWCG .5. Man, if I were still into lock on's that one would be very tempting. I used a Millennium Microlite M7 and considered that small and light. I also used (and still do occasionally) a Lone Wolf Assault II hand climber, which I think of as a climbing lock on stand. I bet that .5 makes both of those look huge.

TX5 minimalist would be a good option. I think the new TL Venatic is going to be a good option as well.

Im using the fix platform and a .5. I now would never get rid of either one of them.
i think i like to have the platform or .5 choice because it keeps options to certain scenarios or what the situation calls for.
believe it or not there are some spots i can not really effectively use a saddle.
i will still use my cruzr xc as a saftey harness or a hybrid setup with my .5.
sitting, leaning, or standing are pretty sweet options while waiting.

I use the recon for stand, ros, and saddle platform. I carry my saddle in my back pack and I don’t use saddle bags so it’s the perfect saddle for me. The recon doesn’t hold weight very well.

Recon as well. But it’s also the only saddle that I own currently ha.

Personally, a minimal style mesh saddle if it’s only 3 or 4 hours and you’re planning on possibly sitting in the .5 seat. Something like the aerohunter Kite, possible the TX5 minimalist, CGM sidewinder ect….. So the lighter thinner material with less strapping across the backside would probably be the best fit for that style. I believe @Plebe does something similar.

I’m doing it this year with a latitude method 2. I have a .5 and fix that I’ll bounce between

Yes, I’m using a Wood Hunting Saddles Original saddle this season with a .5 and my saddle platforms.

I’m primarily a leaner, but the Original Wood Hunting Saddle is big enough to add comfort when using the .5 seat as a knee rest. Yet it’s not so big as the pleated saddles to be sloppy or bulky.

The key advantages of a .5 as I see them are efficient packing of LWCG sticks and a short gear pack (on the shelf) as well as having the option of a seat/knee rest. It made sense to me to get a saddle that works well with these features. The Original Wood sits and leans extremely well for me, and packs down about as small as any saddle.

I often use my .5 for all day hunts.

For quick hits or scout and hunts, I may grab a platform. Since I don't ever wear my saddle in, it's nice to have a saddle that balls up small. I could get away with a more tailored fitting single panel for those short hunts, but the OG gives me just a bit more versatility without really adding unnecessary bulk. I put it up against two smaller single panels, both that I enjoyed, and while I found those smaller saddles sort of set in a proper position for consistent initial comfort more-so than the bigger single panel, with very little adjustment the bigger saddle was even more comfortable and just disappeared from thought. That's kind of the sensation you should be aiming for with any saddle, imo.

I have an og Aerohunter Flex as well and it is fantastic in use, but very bulky/sloppy.

Thanks for the feedback! Based on some recommendations and their 4th of July sale, I ordered a TX5 minimalist. Seems like a good option. Looked at the Dryad Mini Hybrid as well, but looks like a little more fiddle factor.
