As far as paying for their college loans and health care, I seriously doubt anyone asked you to pay for the huskys student loans or health care...

He would have to pay the huskies healthcare if they could trace the arrows back to him.

I have never shot a dog while hunting. I could never get over the idea of some kid waiting for their dog to come home and it not happening.

I can also see paying $1000 dollar lease and another 500 spent on lots all for that one moment that the buck slips up and gives you a shot. Well that dog may or may not have unknowingly ruined the moment that was about to happen. No way to know for sure but I still believe no hunting success is worth some kids dog. So I just watch as your dog walks through marking trees and running deer away from me. But since I just sacrificed my 1500 dollar investment for the happiness of your child and his dog could you not invest 200 into a chain link kennel.

I have experienced the same problems with raising chickens as @ImThere. While I haven’t shot a dog while hunting some scenes around my chicken pens over the years would make Michael Vick look like a peta supporter.

Talking to the owners only starts a fight because you are threatening their dog(even if you aren’t). Animal control in my area will loan you a trap and come pick it up if you catch the dog. The only two real feasible options are to ignore the problem or SSS.

Dogs chasing deer can be a problem.

In the state of Minnesota you are allowed to shoot a dog if you see it chasing deer or harassing wildlife. I dont know I could, but its apparently legal.

Edit: It's only legal from 1Jan to 14July

Similar thing in PA I believe. But for me, it's one of those things that, just because you could, doesn't necessarily mean you should.

I like furry four legged friends a bit too much.

This is a tough topic. As a kid I had a dog that ran away for a few weeks and I really prayed no one would shoot him. Thankfully he returned home safe. At the same time I know hunters who have had many hunts ruined by dogs chasing deer and I can imagine how frustrating that would be. When I was a CO I got calls often about dogs chasing deer and it was nearly impossible to find them. Its always best to try other means before taking a drastic measure. Only after exhausting other methods and having recurring issues would I consider taking the matter into my own hands.

So you assume or know it’s a hunter? I find that hilarious. Field point from a hunter to kill a dog during hunting season. Think about it for more than a second. I assume it’s a pissed off home owner that the dog gets out 10 minutes at a time to chit in my yard 3 times a day. Or maybe one of those pit bulls that never bit anyone until it mauled the 79 year old grandmother. I know my dog will never come home with a arrow in it unless someone trespasses. I keep my dogs up

I loose chickens and turkeys every month to neighbors like the ones that put the sign up. There inabilities to care for there dog are now on the news and a blood thirsty hunters problem. Sometimes you have to take responsibility for your own actions.

I guess I need to pay for there health care and college loans to.

I’m sure this is ok? My trio of royal palm turkeys were in the cage but now there eaten and the neighbors dogs are in the pen.

Glad you find it hilarious. I find it sad and pathetic that people can't think past the end of their nose and come up with a better solution. I'm doing the same exact thing everyone on the planet would. I actually told the lady I bet it was a neighbor. Again, as I stated in a post above, I don't condone dogs running loose without a care in the world, however, there are better ways to handle this situation then running a field point thru it.

Again, simple solution. Lock that cage, call the cops or animal control and then sue them.

When you own a dog it is your moral and legal responsibility to care for the dog.

I guess I’m the only one who thinks this is the owners fault.

Nope, I HAD 3 dogs, had to put 2 down on the same day earlier this year (that really REALLY sucked) down to 1 now. That old girl is almost 15 now, she's not a runner anymore. However, back in the day, even though I kept a pretty tight rein on all 3, there were a couple of times when they got loose. When they did, I was trying to track them down quickly, but sometimes it took a little bit. Beagles like to follow their noses and the red lab, well, I think he was mentally challenged, even for a dog, but he loved everybody. It irritated me when they would get loose (maybe once or twice a year), & everytime I would try to find out how / why and correct it.

Conversely, used to have a neighbor that would let his animal roam. That dog got into more than one persons garbage. I talked to that dude, face to face, told him exactly what was going to go down if he didn't control his dog. Guess what, dog did it again, and I did exactly what I said. I caught his dog, leashed it up, called animal control, and they issued that clown a nice hefty fine. You know, leash laws and all.

I agree, it is the pet owners responsibility to control their animal. However, when they don't, and someone tries to handle it themselves and casts and entire group (i.e. hunters) in an extremely negative light, I just think there are better ways to handle it. Heck, instead of a field tip, a blunt to the back thigh area solves that problem.

My dad shot a 4 pointer with an arrow and it came running past me. Five minutes later, a beagle comes running through on the trail of the deer. I let it go figuring it was too small to do any damage. We trailed that deer and the blood trail ran out and we never found it. I still would not shoot an unattended dog in the woods or anywhere.
