I'm new to one-sticking. Yesterday was my second climb, which went very well. I had 6 deer within 60 yards and they didn't know I was there but never got a shot opportunity.

Anyways, I was using the Ohm tether locker for the first time and I thought I would just clip my pull down rope to the little loop by the locker and onto my delta link so it would release the clip as I pulled. I got down the tree and tugged on my pull-down rope and it won't budge! It was getting dark and I didnt' feel like messing with it, so I left my rappell rope and pull down rope in the tree. (it's only a couple hundred yards from my house). I'll go back and climb up again and retrieve it in daylight.

I guess the lesson is that I should unclip the tether locker right before I descend.

So far my DIY one-stick is working great. Muddy Pro with EWO U.P. platform and EWO fixed double step and standof on the bottom.

That's called the climb of shame if you gotta go get it. Lol. Been there.

I've done the climb of shame a few times with my SRT rope when it refuses to come down.

As to the tether locker...unless you're constantly adjusting the tether throughout the hunt, I would just remove the thing once you got done with your adjustments.

I have been climbing with a separate shorter tether and then setting up my rappel rope when I'm done. It was just annoying having the rappel tether loosening and sliding down before I got hooked in and switched my weight over.

Anyone rappeling should have a quick and dirty SRT kit for rope retrieval. I almost had to do the climb of shame last night. Forgot to move my fender washer behind the oval link. Luckily I he-manned it and pulled it through.

What would I need for a quick and dirty SRT kit? I have a Kong Duck and a Figure 8.

Two hitch cords could work as well. Foot loop into a attachment, and saddle to an attachment. Step up slide your top attachment. Sit into your saddle, raise the lower one. Repeat. I would use the Kong with a foot loop for your foot personally.
Two biners in a Garda loop as well for your feet could work.

Might look at climbing with your rappel rope instead of your tether for a few reasons. One you have a quick path to ground in case of a mishap. Two, you can then use your rappel rope to pull up either your pack or gun/bow.

If you get a hand ascender like the CT quick roll and footloop, you can use it above your figure 8 to SRT.

I actually have two kong ducks, so essentially hook on up onto a foot loop and one on my bridge and then just alternate sliding them up?

you shouldnt have to remove the ohm before rappelling,it slips off pretty easily. connect to that loop like you said...some times you may need to walk away from the tree a bit and pull at an angle. Ive only had one time where mine got stuck and was luckily in my yard and was because a small forked branch caught my quick link perfectly and would let it go...

The only reason I don't climb with my rappel rope is that I use a figure 8 to rappel and I don't want to climb with it. I have a Safeguard on the way and I will likely climb with it when I have that. I have a Doyle's retractable gear hoist I use for my bow and I wear my pack while I climb.

I've gotten in the habit of loosening my rappel rope before descending. Hanging a whole hunt makes it really tight.

I remove the locker before descending but thats just my habits now.

I clip to the loop shown above to pull my rope down but I unclip the rubber "locker" from the rope first.

That’ll work but I typically prefer a friction hitch on top so that once I’m at height I can add in a figure 8 and rappel straight back down.
