So I'm getting the kestrel kit for christmas. That gives me six days to possibly get a hunt or two in before our season is out. What else do i need apart from the kit?

Platform: I am thinking about using the base of my climber and waiting for these new options coming out next year

Climbing method: Probably will buy some sticks. SRT intrigues me but i don't think i can get it all together and confident in a few days

Tether: it comes with a friction knot set up, but I see that folks like a ropeman. Should i just get one?

If there is Anything else that comes to mind so i can try to get a hunt in before the end of the year, please chime in

I would defiantly get a rope man 1. I have 2 of them one on lineman belt and one on tether. You may want to look into pouches to hang on your kestrel for storage also

That all depends on you. Will you be abe to get it all adjusted for safety and comfort AND be confident doing it in the dark...? If you can confidently answer YES without a doubt......I'd say go for it.

I use 2 ropeman 1 on my setup. One on my bridge and one on my tether. I also use WildEdge steps and I am going to try Red's climbing aider with a ropeman 1.

A 5 minute conversation with @g2outdoors and a good credit score.

A means to ascend - e.g., sticks, stepps, screw ins, etc.
A platform - e.g., Ernie kit and XOP seat, 2 or 3 Stepps, lone wolf sit and climb seat, etc.
Ropeman 1 - way better than a friction knot for a linemans belt. I'd order two (1 for linemans belt and one for tether)

Try to keep it simple for first few. Maybe pre set sticks and platform ahead of time.

I would make sure to be safe and comfortable at ground level before doing anything at height. Especially if you are not used to setting sticks (maybe only used a climber and not a hang on?)

And all your other usual hunting kit.

Good luck!

Ropeman one for your linesman belt ( they are a good price on amazon ) I prefer a prussic knot for my lead rope ( just seems safer to me )

Awesome, thanks for all the advice. I'm sure there will be more questions. Sorting through all the great info on this sight is a little daunting but fun. I'm a dentist and we always joke that if you ask a group of five dentists how to treat a patient you will get 8 answers. Seems like saddle hunting has a bunch of right ways it can be done and that there are multiple ways to skin this cat
