Is there a trick to getting the Wildedge SteppLadder bag to close?

Predator friendly. Did a few mods and both Perch or Predator lock on. Working on belt attachments and we done. I made this one in brown Kydex. When I can figure out what production will cost I will figure out a price. CB04D01A-29AA-434D-BDB5-26873DA4D532.jpeg

Just an fyi there has been some talk on FB regarding wildedge redoing their bag. They have undergone the design process and I know Newtribe has offered to take a crack at the bag. I spoke with Andrew about this at Massachusetts Palooza this past weekend and I think he also has similar concerns of addressing the bag personally.

The holsters look cool but stay tuned things are starting to take form!!

I had the same problem on all three sets of steps I had. Yep. I have bought and sold these dang things three times.

I had the zipper problem and added the clips. They are easier to zip with the bag lying down.

I think the original bag works great but there are some things to figure out in order to make them work well every time. Make sure when stacking to not have any ropes in between the standoffs of two Stepps. And if they are stacked tight and flush, the biggest thing I’ve found that keeps the zipper from closing easily is the alignment of the stack in the bag itself. If it isn’t straight (parallel with the zipper itself, top to bottom), the bag will be hard to close. Simply align the stack (making sure horizontal cross bars of Stepps are perpendicular to the zipper, the closer to 90 the better it works) and zip it up. Being off just a little adds difficulty in closing the zipper. Only takes a second to align properly and zip.
I’m loving the Kydex holster idea tho!!!

The bag is great but user friendly, not so much. If you are calm and organized [Perfectionist type] it works fine. I never really had a problem with it except for speed... you have to stop everything, get hyper focused on the task at hand and take the time to put it on the ground, pack up ropes, align everything and wrestle the zipper up. When you are climbing up or when you get down to the ground, there are enough things to get ready or pack up. The bag as you can see from many posts is not a big crowd pleaser.
This Kydex holster is just fast, tie everything up on your hip and get going. If you pack up your backpack in the tree, you can load the Stepps on the way down then hit the ground running. It will not be for everyone. It is another option for hunters on the go. The thing I like most from using/testing is that it can be clipped on in the back, front or side out of the way and you can pull the Stepps blind and tie them on. You stay focused on the climb and don't have to adjust the bag or worry about the zipper opening and loosing the load of Stepps. The Stepps are secure and almost impossible to fall out. When you are ready, pull & deploy your platform with holster empty or loaded at any point.
I made this as a DIY thing just for myself a few months ago, then I went to the Maryland Saddle gettogether and there was a lot of interest and offers to buy one. I think it will be popular.

Yikes. Been thinking about some WE steps but that's kind of a cheap looking zipper. As tight a fit as it sounds to be, I would think a burley YKK triple stitched or the kind found on my Kifaru pack would be more appropriate.

I'll ad admit to being a newbie step user, I climbed last week and was pleased with the bag. I slung it over my head and right shoulder, pulled out a step with the zipper above the highest step in the bag and for subsequent steps kept the zipper above each one.
When I came down, I packed each step in as I went. Always had the zipper pulled above the level of each step as I went.
I had a 8 step bag, but only had 4 steps and knaider/swaider. Without any fuss or wasted time I was on the ground with the steps already packed away.
The first couple of times I used my steps I had the problems listed by you guys. This time, by keeping the zipper up as described it was easy, fast. The ropes i stuffed in with each step so they come back out on the next climb with each step as I go.
I think the only model needed is to sew under the zipper at the lowest point needed to keep it from zipping all the way down.
Hope that helps.

I try to keep moving the zipper up as I climb down and add steps. It doesnt always work, but once I am on the ground I lie it down on the ground and pack and zipper it up. A little annoying but not terrible.

Best advice? Use sticks! Lol
The bag is frustrating on one hand but it has to hold the steps tight or they will rattle. Pick your poison!
