Just wondering - I’m so new to SH that I’m awaiting my first saddle to arrive in the mail. I’ve been scouring forums and youtube trying to decide on my first steps/sticks. I‘be been looking closely at the WE steps along with several sticks. Having absolutely nothing to personally compare them to, I’m wondering why you say they’re not for you. I’m a Senior hunter looking for something comfortable and safe-feeling without wasting money with trial and error. Would appreciate any tips/feedback.
The reason why they aren't for me is that each step needs to be tied, I found it cumbersome, some guys are quick with it and it isn't an issue. They do have a lot of positive points, for one they allow you to climb some trees that are oddly shaped and I will say that once they are on the tree, they are solid and strong, no wiggling around which is nice. They work well with the knaider and Swaider or carry as you go aider as well. Once I reached hunting height, I would tie three of them around 3 sides of the tree for a ring of steps style set up.
Basically I switched to hawk helium sticks because I'm lazy and I can get higher with fewer things to tie on to the tree. Your mileage may vary though.. I think they were worth a try. With saddle hunting, you never quite know what your set up will be as everyone is a bit different.
