It's just...a little crush... - Review of the JX3 Hybrid Saddle

One sticking is getting easier every time. Climbed 25’ up yesterday for an 8 hour sit in the JX 3. The deer forgot to cooperate, but I was incredibly comfortable the entire time. I definitely can climb faster with my LWHC, but the rocksolid stability of the JX 3 stick with top step bar makes it well worth the minimal time penalty.

What's your move sequence? Are you using a LB with the tether? Or just a tether?
Have you one sticked with a normal saddle and assembly to compare?

I attach my tether to the tree as high, as I can reach while standing on the ground, and then attach the stick just below it with my three step aider. I ditched the quick link because the extra weight was causing the tether to slide back down the tree much more often. Our trees down here are like telephone poles, and mainly limbless down low, so the quick link was of no benefit.

Additionally, I decided against using a lineman’s belt for a couple of reasons. First, I am obviously attached to the tether from the minute my foot leaves the ground, and the Linemans belt ended up being more of a distraction. I need 100% of my focus to be on the tether, and keeping as much slack out of it as possible.

The JX 3 hybrid is the only saddle I have ever one sticked out of, and the JX 3 stick is the only stick I have ever used. I have hunted with the hybrid for five seasons, but one sticking is brand new to me, so take that into consideration when listening to anything I have to say. You know what they say about free advice… It’s worth nothing. ;)

I believe it was called the ultimater from Eastern Woods outdoors. It came with looped ends, and since the JX 3 stick is more like a ladder, you cannot loop the ends over the step. I just used some 6 mm climbing rope I picked up at REI as a temporary anttachment until I can find some 1 inch webbing buckles and straps.

Interesting. Looks more like Amsteel than webbing. At least I thought the Ultimaider was webbing based.

It’s definitely Amsteel, but now I’m not certain about the brand.

Gotcha. It's hard to tell zooming in but it looks like an Amsteel Guy 3-step aider with pieces of black hose to keep the steps open. Curious how you like it? I almost ordered one. Mine is OOaL. So no hose. Light but not as open.

If the Amsteel ends have loops as I think they do, you can girth hitch those around the lower standoffs, and then pull it up and over the bottom step. If you want. Cuts the accessory cord connection out of it.

I don’t have much experience with Aiders, but I like these a lot. The rubber hose definitely allows it to keep its shape under load, making it very easy to climb with. I didn’t even think about girth hitching around the standoffs and pulling it up over the step. Any chance the 90° edge of the step could wear through the Amsteel overtime? I don’t have a lot of experience with anmsteel either.

Something to watch for sure. You could put a piece of tubular webbing over that section to help protect against wear.

I got some of the thinner paracord and did some cobra weaving on my tethrd One sticks for the same reason, has worked so far and looks kinda cool.

For one-sticking with the JX3 platform stick, how hard is it climbing back down the tree using it?

Anybody paint underneath the bottom seat camo? Looks like a big black square hanging there from the ground.

Small pet peeve was not using brown or tan mesh instead of black. Only problem is from below they’re all black.

I’ve tied up some ghillie material and hung it from the bottom early on. All of the animals I’ve killed from it there’s been nothing on there though.

Non issue.

You can insert the seat pad in there. Put the camo side facing out. It will block the wind too.

Can you not put the loops over the bottom rungs and standoffs like in this photo? I made this one to one stick, but haven't tried it yet.Screenshot_20231229_093737_Gallery.jpg

That's what I do with my OoaL 3-step aider and it works well. Just be mindful of wear & tear on the part that rubs on the step at a 90 degree bend. Maybe pass it through a bit of tubular webbing that sits right there to minimize wear on the aider. Just an idea.
