So even though the weather is way on the wet side this weekend, the wife and I decided to take another road trip. Man am I glad we did. After driving several miles and on several different roads we decided we would turn around at the next wide spot in the road and head on back towards the main drag and find some coffee and a restroom. Not necessarily in that order. As luck would have it along comes a young fellow on a side by side at the wide spot I had chosen. Me having never met a stranger, I rolled down the window of our Wrangler and gave him a big old “Howdy Neighbor “. Turns out he has a farm in the area and he had been out all morning shed hunting. He had one small antler to show for his labors. Well after a long conversation standing in the drizzle and discussing all things hunting and swapping several cell phone pics of our successes, I felt comfortable enough to ask him about the area. He knows it like the back of his hand. I gleaned a wealth of information from him and was more than satisfied. What happened next truly blew me away. An invitation to come back and go on a scouting trip with him. Wow. A guided tour of the area with a young man who is out doing what he loves and is willing to share his knowledge. I assured him that I wasn’t looking to sit in any of his honey holes and he assured me by saying this, “this is a big place”. This may sound nuts but I feel like I was put in that spot at that exact time on purpose. We parted ways after swapping phone numbers with a hearty hand shake and mutual wishes for good luck. Needless to say I am pumped. As if things couldn’t get any better on our way home my cell phone was going crazy. Picture upon picture of this young man’s home and the wall decoration throughout. The craziest part of this whole story is that this isn’t at all where I had thought about going before. This is a totally different place that I was told about last weekend by a couple of fellows in the WalMart sporting goods section. The wife and I decided to make the almost two hour drive just for something to do today. I have to say that she is a real trooper. Yep it was just meant to be.
