A zip ti around the drive shaft works great too
So does a couple of ball bearing or marbles in a gas tank. At least, in older vehicles with steel gas tanks.

Once upon a time I carelessly drove a work truck over some barbed wire, way back in the AZ desert. Wound up with about 200' of fencing wrapped around my driveshaft and axle, took an angle grinder and plasma torch to get it moving again.... I'm a bit more cautious about driveshafts as a result of this experience.
