No I havent but I havent used that configuration much at all since switching to the running jrb. Like the pic above though, a friction hitch on the main line and biner at the end seems like a great if not the best option. That is keeping in mind the mbs of the hitch cord and maybe using a hitch that allows for clipping into a double strand loop rather than a single strand loop.Question for the guys using the carabiners instead of a quicklink: Have you noticed any issues with the carabiners over time ie. bending or sticky gate operation?
I haven’t but I also don’t do it enough to comment. I used to use a biner that way all the time and never had a concern but I’ve switched to steel oval or delta >90% of the time because it’s supposed to be stronger. I question if it’s necessary or even better… but I keep doing it anyway.Question for the guys using the carabiners instead of a quicklink: Have you noticed any issues with the carabiners over time ie. bending or sticky gate operation?
same 1 for 3 years. nothing wrong with it. 150+ climbs. with 8mm it stays where I put it with minimal tensionQuestion for the guys using the carabiners instead of a quicklink: Have you noticed any issues with the carabiners over time ie. bending or sticky gate operation?
If I did use a carabiner I'd use it like this....Those of you that climb with your rappel line and use a biner in place of a quick link, what’s your trick for keeping the biner in place? Generally a quick link will keep some sort of tension on the line due to its smaller diameter and not slacken the loop around the tree but I’m thinking owing to the larger size of a biner the line will just back out and the loop will scoot down the tree. What’s your trick? I have an ohm locker that works well with a quick link but don’t think that’ll work with the larger mouth of a biner.
If you use this setup on a rappel line, can you still retrieve it from the ground?
They come in a bunch of sizes.I’ve used the orange Nite -Ize gear tie for awhile now and it works well. I’d like to try the fender washer sometime. Do you drill out the middle?
It depends on the hitch and ratchet and mainline. If you use this setup on a rappel line, can you still retrieve it from the ground?
You could add a hitch tender and attach the pull down rope to that…It depends on the hitch and ratchet and mainline.
And what is on the end of your pull-down rope.
I tried it for a while a couple years ago and after all kinds of different stuff I came to the conclusion that climbing with my rappel rope sucks!
That is definitely the post I was looking for.Tether Tender
Rubber fender washer. 1 1/2” OD x 1/4” ID fits nice and snug over 8mm rope, but still slides easily for adjustments. This keeps your link in place and your rope from falling down the tree It’s also flexible enough to fold and push it through the link when your ready to rapell down, or if you...saddlehunter.com

I second this. Easy knots to tie and eliminate all metal hardware.Consider trying the maverick or running JRB hitch when practicing in off season. Very easy and quick to tie w/ just a little practice and way easier to retrieve rappel line at end of hunt. They both work fantastic and don't slide down the tree. I will never go back to using a quick link or biner again. Both of these methods can be found on the JRB YouTube channel.
See I agree! I don’t like to climb with mine either. I actually stopped one sticking last year because I don’t like carrying the rappel rope. I like to rappel down but do not enjoy the extra weight associated with the rope, quick link, belay device, extra Biner, backup, pull down dyna glide and attachment etc. I feel like I’m being whiny about it but I just can’t get beyond it. Going to really work a lot with the Sladder this coming season and tethering back down. If I get completely comfortable with it it will be one of the most efficient systems out there imho.It depends on the hitch and ratchet and mainline.
