KNaider/SWaider with climbing sticks

I find this intriguing, but I can't, for the life of me, envision the transition as the aider is moved up the tree. Obviously, your body weight is supported by the tethered harness, but how do you position yourself to disengage the aider and then move it far enough above to be able to step again?
by the time I reach the top of the aider my tether is at the height that all I have to do is sit down and rest in the rock climbing harness. Sitting there I release the buckle strap, pull enough webbing through the buckle for slack, slide the aider up the tree as far as I can and tighten the buckle....climb the aider again while moving the tether up the tree.....repeat until desired height....then once I get to the top of the climb put my feet in the stirrups pull slack out of the tether, climb into my saddle and lower tether where my knees are bending in a correct position for maximum comfort. I will try and make a video(s) of me actually doing it and post it to this thread so it makes more sense. :)

I had thought about doing this with climbing sticks a while back when the original Knaider /Swaider video came out with the wild Edge steps, but never got around to building a knaider /Swaider.

My thought was .......Is there a way you could attach a versa button to the bottom of the tubing and add another versa button a couple inches above the first on the climbing sticks?

Then just make a sewn loop on the webbing on the Swaider and the knaider and attach them around the versa button as you climb. Maybe eliminating the need for a carabiner or a hook system from knaider/Swaider altogether.

Would the Versa button be able to hold your weight ?

Noxninja, thanks for the clarification. I look forward to any of your future videos.

I wouldn’t trust just the versa button bolt to hold all of my weight a one time. I would look up the shear strength for the size and material of the type of bolt you have prior to using this method.

I was wondering if a knee pad would be enough to hold a knaider in place. I was fooling around with an easy aider attached to foot and shortened and held in place by my knee pads. Just one less strap to deal with.

With a good strap. It definitely won't feel very comfortable with all the weight trying to dislocate your platella.

Aother option to the double countinous amsteel loop is just a shoulder length sewn runner doubled up & girth hitched to climbing stick.

Thanks for the great video. That clarified things a lot. I tried climbing with just an aider and tether yesterday (before I saw your video) but it didn’t go well. My aider has 6 steps and is more like a ladder. I felt I didn’t have room for my foot to get into the steps easily. Ive been hanging it off a climbing stick and that’s holds my aider pretty far outfrom the tree.

Which aider are you using? Are you using a cam buckle cinch strap around the tree for your aider?

Mine is the 4 step aider from Metolis. The steps are offset. One technique you will find helpful is to stick the foot into a step toes toward tree this sets the aider away from the tree making it easy to climb. You will notice foot removal will be easier this way. You are correct on the cam buckle to cinch it to the tree

I was thinking similar to this. Maybe 2 separate 9” runners girthed with the sewn(stiff) sections facing out to hook to.

Figured loop would stay open cuz the stiffness.

That is really good stuff @noxninja: the video was well done.
As a newbie, i am trying to find the lightest set up that is easy to work with.
I am going to DIY a 3 step Aider on a strap and try that.
The 4 step rock climbing aiders seem too close together. Three for me would be the limit for reach anyway.

In the meantime I was interested to get @g2outdoors opinion of this aider rig on my LW stick.
I get on the 1st step of the stick and then unclip the aider and move up to the next stick.
Also - I used pieces of 3/8" polyethlyene tubing for stiffeners in my aiders. Work great.

I am going to try to attach pics but not sure how to do it - so it might take a couple tries.

I would do a YouTube search on making an aider. If I remember correctly there is one of a guy that used sections of garden hose to maintain the rigidity of the step. IMO that is critical in order to not be frustrated with foot placement.

I took a broken arrow and sawed a piece for the foot hold within the strap, then wrapped with non skid tape designed for stair steps.
