I suppose a continuous loop could be girth hitched to the hook and if it was just the right length it would work. But tubular webbing with knots is so easy that might as well do that.
 
Dims are going to vary for everyone. I did these last night. Tubular webbing, all knots. I went just below my knee on knaider and 2" below hip bone on swaider
