Hey all, with barrier to hunting being so large and sometimes seeming impossible to overcome, I want to show my two mentors I care and do something special for them. I got lucky and landed two really great mentors.

I was thinking of getting them some knives from a local PA company with an engraving. I was hoping to get their initials with an antler on each side of the initials. I’ve reached out to the company but haven’t gotten a response yet. Before I set anything in stone, I was wondering if anyone here has any ideas or has had any experience doing something like this?

This guy makes custom knives and embedded a military pin in the handle for a retirement gift for a friend of ours, pretty sweet knife.

I didn’t see anything on their site about engraving, I’ll have to reach out.

This is a rabbit hole you can go down. I found a bunch of stuff on places like Instructables and Bladeforums for electro-engraving metal.

Did you ever find a solution to your etching request?

I just thought of something, if you haven't solved your problem already... a jeweler should be able to engrave pretty much anything on metal. If they can't, ask them to recommend someone who can. Also, some gunsmiths do various types of engraving, and laser-engraved Pmags are pretty common these days.

I did, I initially went with a coworker who does 3D printing and a laser engraver. The problem was his laser wasn’t strong enough to bit into the shiny metal. I then went to things remembered in the mall with the file he gave me and had them engrave it.

Etching would have been another option, I use it for applying a makers mark to knives.

I’m glad you found a solution!

I have an electro etcher. if I’d seen this thread sooner I’d have gladly offered to help you create a solution.
