I have a rope man 1 now and was considering Mayb keeping my tether 11mm just to keep the rope man 1 but at the same time that defeats my entire purpose of wanting smaller rope. But either way thank you for your input it’s greatly appreciatedKong duck. The ropeman 2 blows compared to any other mechanical device. The teeth are WAY too aggressive on the ropeman 2.
I have used both and there is no comparison. I can't even use the ropeman 2 one handed because of how much the teeth snag the rope sheathing.
Theres a reason ropeman 2's go for $25 and its nearly impossible to find a duck under $50.
Please, do yourself a favor and stay away from the ropeman 2.
Ropeman 1's are sweet and almost worth the extra rope diameter. But if you are set on 8mm the duck can't be beat for saddle hunting.
Rope man 2As the title says I’ve narrowed it down to two options. I’m gonna get on board with the 8mm tether/lineman hype just want some opinions from guys who have used them first hand
Rope man 2 are $49.99 and I have never had that issue because you do not release mechanical rope grabs while under load. I will say if you pull the chord under load that the teeth will grab the sheath but I’ve not experienced that if I take the weight off before advancing or releasing. So since you have both, do you want to sell your rope man 2 for $25? If so I’ll take it! LolKong duck. The ropeman 2 blows compared to any other mechanical device. Get you a 10mm tether. Smaller and lighter and stronger than 11mm and stronger than oplux. Still allows you to use the rope man 1 but the rope man 2 is a good rope grab as wellI have a rope man 1 now and was considering Mayb keeping my tether 11mm just to keep the rope man 1 but at the same time that defeats my entire purpose of wanting smaller rope. Make your existing tether your new LB and get a Duck for your new 8mm tether.I have a rope man 1 now and was considering Mayb keeping my tether 11mm just to keep the rope man 1 but at the same time that defeats my entire purpose of wanting smaller rope. This is exactly what I did n it works great. You'd be surprised at how much lighter the 10mm feels. IMHOGet you a 10mm tether. Smaller and lighter and stronger than 11mm and stronger than oplux. Still allows you to use the rope man 1 but the rope man 2 is a good rope grab as well
Or solve all your problems and use this for your LB and tether. I run a Kong Duck for my LB but use a schwabisch for my tether with a figure aider from Genesis 3D printing.

Thank you for this info sir.You can make a tender for a prussic with a small piece of paracord. Its literally nothing but a figure 8 loop. Cost 5 cents. I do this for Lineman belt, I think it work better than a mechanical. Or EWO sell a mini Kong tender for $1 which look pretty cool actually. Some people even simply use their carabiner by looping the rope into it.
I dont link mechanical for lineman belt because I dont feel that its totally one hand operation, you have to release tension on the device then pull the tab. With a friction hitch+ tender, you just squeezes the knot while there is tension to move down, and pull the rope/tender against the knot to go up.
I think Average Jack video is a great explanation.
But a Kong is by recommendation if you want mechanical.
And if you get the right brand it packs down really small too. The only negative I have seen is some 10mm don’t accept knots as well but if you’re using a sewn eye it doesn’t matter. You can always run a few holding stitches through if you do decide to tie a knot. Overall I thoroughly enjoy 10mm rope! It’s the best of both worldsThis is exactly what I did n it works great. That’s why I’m such a fan of the Edelrid 8.9. It’s the best of both worlds. Abrasion resistance is top notch. It is dynamic, not static and it’s size packs easily if that’s your worry. It works with the mechanicals if that’s your worry and it still works with sterling 6mm TRC for you non mechanical guys also. @Brocky gets full credit for introducing me to it. I’m just trying to share it with others who may not know about it yet.I also advocate a little larger rope, at least 9mm so you can be in spec of most mechanical devices. 'Packability' is not that much of an issue with saddle hunting because we are not carrying 100+ ft. Nothing wrong with 8mm Oplux, just usage of larger rope is easier IMHO.
