Time has come and I head to Kansas on Saturday. I am super pumped to head out east and chase whitetail. I think I have all my gear ready with valuable lessons from my last trip. The weather looks good and I have reports of deer starting to cruise. I can’t wait!

I live less than an hour from Kansas. Are tags difficult to get? I was always told it’s near impossible to obtain a non resident buck tag but I hear of a lot of people going.

I haven’t drawn in consecutive years but it’s not terrible. Obviously some units are easier to draw than others too. The non resident tags have been selling out for the state.

Take lots of pictures.

Man, you really threw me off with the "head out east". If I head East I'll wind up in the Atlantic lol. Good luck and most importantly have fun!

Good luck, looking forward to seeing you post up a pic of a Kansas giant.

Whitetail is a newer deal for me to hunt. I have only shot 3 whitetail bucks. I’d fall out of the tree if a giant came in. Basically looking for a decent buck on this trip.
Got my room reserved and only need to pack some food items.

I’m on the road! I feel like I’m going the wrong way with all the hunting rigs I’m passing that are headed west.

I know the feeling. I’m headed to Illinois tomorrow. Like Christmas Eve around here.

Update. No luck in October, kinda. Came back on the 5th and still slow. Did find a nice shed.

Well I completed my first whitetail rut hunt. I don’t think I could have picked a worse week to go if I wanted too. Super warm weather with high winds and a full moon to boot. No signs of the rut or even deer activity. I did pass a few small bucks and never even drew my bow. I still had a good time and learned a ton about the area and whitetail. I’m looking forward to giving it another go next year if I can draw.
