I’d like to get one that sends the temps to my phone. I’ve researched several and there always seems to be reviews on each one that says the range sucks. Like won’t even be readable if you are inside or won’t send temp alarms if your phone isn’t open to the app. I’m not worried about checking my temps while I run errands in town. Just want to sit by the fireplace inside while the kamado grill cooks for hours outside. Maybe the send temp to phone technology just isn’t good enough yet. Maybe I should just look harder into one that has a wireless unit that I can bring inside. But I want a strong signal one.
What has been working for y’all?

The best one I had was the maverick. It is a 2 prong thermometer. One for the meat and one for your smoker/grill. It lasted for about 5 years. There was a sending and receiving unit. There was no app for the phone, at least not on what I had. When that went down I bought the weber i. I found inconsistency with using it, not on the temperature but with pairing up to iPhone. I am hoping Santa will fix this problem for me.

I also have used the maverick but, not for cooking. I have the sending unit outside at my outdoor boiler with one probe taped to the outgoing pipe and one on the return. I had the receiving unit inside my house for a while so that I could see my boiler temps without going outside but, it was pushing the range of the unit (about 150') and it kept losing signal. I found that if you kept a direct line of sight it would stay connected out to about 100' or so.

I would think the units that send temps to your phone would have to do it via WiFi, right? In that case the range would be related to the strength of your WiFi signal and not necessarily the sending unit of the thermometer.

Some use WiFi and some blue tooth and some both. But the reviews don’t look very good.

You want Bluetooth the WIFI ones for some reason don't work that well. A lot of reviews that I have heard said the wifi/phone units keep coming in and out of service. I have never had an issue with my Maverick. The maverick is about the best you can buy, its what most completion BBQers use. The Maverick ET 733 is the unit I have the probes can be used for either grill temp or in meat which is really nice to be able to intertwine. Sometimes I am not worried about my grill temp so I probe two different hunks of meat.

Consensus on some of the grilling forums I frequent is that the Flameboss is the way to go

Ive got the maveric 733, works great. I know its not compatible with your phone, but with the remote its worth a look.

The maverick is what I always thought was the way to go for years but now that I’m ready to buy one, the phone system caught my eye. I just don’t think they got it figured out yet.
