light, packable down pants?

I don't know anything about puffy pants but whenever I am looking for specific piece of gear like u are I always look to see what surplus offers....liner pants are cheap...like 2 or 3 pairs for 15 bucks....they might be just as good quality as the name brand stuff ...might not be an option for u but I just letting u know....

if i recall, these are actually pretty quiet too....the shell layer is very thin and so does not crinkle....you could probably pull these on over your pants and saddle once in the tree and not make a noise

heck, we stealth strip everything here....for these and others....why not figure out where they might rub (thigh area?) and put stealth strip there and then sew it on for good measure in the wash?

Thanks appreciate the responses. I hadnt seen the “pro” version, but Lord knows I want to be and most importantly look professional in a tree, so I’ll definitely give them a peek. Serially, where do they come up with these product names??
i will check them out though. Im really focused on these being extremely light and packable so in this case Im willing to grit my teeth through the pricetag and the ridiculous names if its going to be lighter and pack smaller, just trying to figure out if these could possibly work in a tree—I THINK Ive had several deer hear my clothing as I drew at 15 yards or so, but I cant be sure they didnt see movement either. If I decide these are the same “loudness” as the outdoor brands Ill probably go with western mtneering or feathered friends or one of the companies that focuses on this sort of thing. Will chew on it. If I go this route I’ll report back.

I have the super down ultra jacket. When I got it I was amazed at how light its was. It does a pretty great job and keeping me warm. I sized up to be able to put it on the outside of my jacket if I start to get cold. It is noisy exterior fabric, And I wouldn’t were through brush. I usually put my peleton 240 over it because the peleton is double bonded fleece for wind resistance. Then ther is no noise. Or the down compresses enough to where under my jacket. I will be adding the pants this year for really cold sits.

I used the Sitka fanatic vest. The vest was quiet but bulky. I could get the
Kuiu ultra pants and jacket in less space than the Sitka fanatic vest. I also have an Eddie Bauer 700 full jacket and the kuiu has much better range of motion and has a less bulky feeling.

I have not been disappointed with any of my kuiu gear yet. Buy once cry once. I bought my attack pants and guide jacket about 10 years ago and they are still going strong. And I have not been easy on them.

Hope this is helpful.

Ok. I have full blown went this direction. Full on western set up for Appalachian whitetail.
My best advice is go with a good base, mid, down and hardshell. I am an ounce counter too. Im also strictly saddle or ground.
Best down pants I have found is the under armor alpine ops. I have owned, kuiu, Sitka, FL and UA. So far UA is the quietest. I actually found a great hardshell. Badlands exo. Quiet and packable.

Thanks folks.
Lowg08, is the shell over your down for wind proofing, better heat retention, sound, etc?

on those UA pants, can you full unzip the legs to where the zipper fully disconnects both sides or are the two zipper sides stuck together, even if you can zip up and down due to double zippers?

You won’t fully disconnect. Zip from the top down or bottom up or vent. I’m trying to post pictures. They have a snaps at top and bottom and a two way zipper.

Thanks folks.

It is. It creates a wind proof, waterproof and heat retention system. The exo actually has kinda a reflection system. The exo is actually quiet too. I only back pack but as it is. Now basically bow only. I have to stay quiet and light

I have one rain suit that is great for rain and wind and heat retention but it’s loud as heck. I just found the badlands exo. It’s brushed exterior, packable and has a ceramic heat retention system.

Under my stratus pants, I’m looking at the 350 wt first lite furnace zip off pants. I have the 350 weight Henley, and am really impressed by it. Zip off heavy weight wool layer I don’t have to walk in with sounds as good as any down puffy to me, without the noise.

Those are a great item. I had both of them. Just didn’t fit in my way of use. I’ve found light merino under fleece and pants is great. Then add the puffy. It’s a major game changer to be able to zip off your bottoms and remove your top

Im already wearing 350 weight longies, this is to go over that for COLD wx. Some
Folks dont, but I just need more to stay warm when Im sitting for a couple hours and its 5 or 10 degrees out. Have a good system that works, just looking to see if I can lighten it up and apply it to my tree stand bow hunting as well.

I can give you my set up that I used this year then what I’m changing to cut weight and add warmth.
This down to 12 degrees this year.
Bottoms
145 merino
200 merino
Catalyst foundry
Uncompaghre/ UA alpine ops.

TOPS
250 merino
Klamath hoodie
Heavy fleece jacket ( old Walmart Remington)
Chamberlain jacket.

I’m changing out the 200 bottoms to peleton 97 fleece. No longer using the Uncompaghre. Sticking with UA. I’m adding the zenith jacket and kenai vest. Hoping this ups my fleece weight compared to my Klamath and the kenai replaces the heavier fleece jacket to save some space and weight.

I should say, I hunt in north/central KY. And I also rarely hunt after Christmas, so it ain’t THAT cold. I hunt down to the teens, but fish in single digits.

I’m in western North Carolina. Hunt from opener to closer. Usually we get some single digits in December but not this year

Now that I have some firsthand knowledge I can comment

I know some of yuts guys gonna say 20s isn't cold but it is for Florida man.

I can't remember exactly which country of origin..German or Czech maybe but I think they all pretty much the same. They roll up and pack away nicely especially compared to an insulated bib. U can put them on over the saddle and tie the waistband string. Stays put while hanging and also stays put for the walk out.

Edit: I guess I need to add that in order to put them on u gotta remove ur shoes so that may be awkward for some when elevated....if it bothered me that much I could take to someone who knows how to modify that kinda stuff and add a seam and 5 or 6 buttons up to the knee

So far, anything I’ve bought from GameHide has been warm and quiet. I don’t pack cold gear, so I can’t speak to that aspect. When you look at products on their website, they have a noise rating and a warmth rating as well for each product. And they’re way more affordable than most of your well-known “premium” clothing brands for very much the same or better quality.
