That's funny I ordered one last Wednesday from Amazon and it is being delivered to my door today?

I only see the Ropeman MK2 on there. No biggie. Not in any rush to get it.

The link took me right to the Ropeman 1. I just bought two.

Yes on the other website, but not on Amazon. I ordered one as well.

Oh yeah, I tried Amazon the other day too.

Did you see the message on this 123mountain.com???

My email said they will send the order to the manufacturer and expect 3-6 weeks for the manufacturer to ship to me.
But if it takes longer than 6 weeks from the latest of those dates (12 weeks from time of order) they will send me my money back.

I know the law and they can't hold my order for more than 30 days for web/catalog businesses without offering my money back as soon as they know it will be more than 30 days. <<< That's just an FYI for those who were not aware. FTC regulations.

I am not in a hurry. I just figured I should get the order in while someone was taking the order.

Ah yeah... got the email. That stinks. Mine said they expect to ship it between the 15th and 30th. Wish they would have indicated it was shipping from manufacturer. I'll probably just cancel my order. I am so impatient when it comes to buying things on the internet... Amazon and their brutal corporate culture sure have spoiled the consumer

Yep. 15-30th. I must have been a little angry the first time I read it. So I could wait up to 8 weeks or may just not get it. And this actually seems like a form letter so if there is a back log at Wild Country, then I may be waiting for nothing...

Thank you for your order with 123Mountain.com. Your item(s) has been ordered from our supplier today. We expect ship your order between October15th and October 30th Sometimes the process is faster and of course it will ship to you ASAP. There might be some exceptions, for example: supplier is out of stock, or manufacturing delays. We try to inform you as soon we receive any update. If your order has not been delivered to our warehouse 6 weeks after the latest expected shipping date, we will cancel your order. If you would like to keep this order active even after this delay please let us know and we can extend this backorder.

I ordered one last night and its saying they expect the order to ship between October 24- November 14. I've been looking for other sources or similar products. Anyone else find something?

You could go with something like this http://www.amazon.com/Petzl-Pro-Microgr ... B0017ANMN4
It's a lot heavier duty than a ropeman but the rope isn't as convenient to get in and out of it.

This would be a little easier for getting on the rope than the Micrograb, correct?

Definitely. Having a grenade pin makes it a little too easy to get it off the rope as well :)...

The microcender has been around for years and they're probably fine but there's not a chance I'd climb a tree with one. That design gives me the heebie jeebies. I've used the micro and macro grab for years and they're bullet proof. There's some good knots that can be used too but some of them need a fair amount of familiarity with friction hitches to be set up correctly.

I have the ropeman ordered. Who knows when it will actually come in. In the mean time, I was looking for similar devices. I was at the Great Outdoor Provision Company this week and a climbing expert there tried to put me on the Petzl Grigri. It seemed like it would work great, but too expensive.

A grigri would work well but yeah it's expensive and unnecessary. A flipline is a pretty simple system that can be rigged a lot of different ways. Even something like a Distel hitch and a carabiner can be used quite effectively. Lightweight, self-tending, no metal to clank around.

I dont think think I would use a grigri for this application. It is designed to brake when it has a sudden load. If you gently lean into it, it won't catch.

Uh got my ropeman from 123mointain but it's a 2 not a 1. ***.

Bummer. I went on their website and on my droid I can't find ropeman on their site. Live chat popped up, see what the screw up was and if they have a ropeman 1 in stock. I suspect they phased out the 1 with the 2 being the replacement.

Question then to those who have used the 1 vs the 2...

Is there really a big difference for the application I am going to be using it for? (ie: tree strap). If they are both functionally the same I am wondering if I need to bother with a return here?

I'd return it. The 2 snags the rope.

Blearg@#~!@.

Yeah I was just reading through the entire thread and seen some of the criticism of the 2. Bummer. Back it goes...

Looks like wildcountry has them back in stock though! Wondering if I shouldn't just snag two of them while they're available... hmmm..

I originally bought the 2 and returned it for the 1. I hated the 2. I love the 1.
